APPOINTMENT TO COMMITTEE OF DELEGATES ADVISORY TO ILLINOIS COMMISSION OF HIGHER EDUCATION An Act of the Seventieth General Assembly of Illinois approved July 9, 1957, created a permanent "Illinois Commission of Higher Education" of nine persons, appointed by the Governor for specified terms. NICKELL, Superintendent of Public Instruction, 302 South State Office Building, Springfield, Illinois The Act provides that the Commission shall have the power and it shall be its duty: "a. To analyze the present and future aims, needs and requirements of higher education in the State of Illinois. "b. T o study requests to the Governor or to the General Assembly for appropriations of state funds for higher education for any purpose or in any form whatsoever, and to make recommendations thereon to the Governor and the General Assembly. "c. To study the means and methods of financing the operational and physical plant requirements of higher education. "d. T o study the role of and the need for different types of institutions and programs of higher education in the State of Illinois. "e. To compare at its discretion higher education in the State of Illinois with other slates. "f. T o advise the Governor when the Governor may from time to time request regarding any area of higher education. "g. T o submit a written report on or before the first Monday in February of each year of its activities and recommendations made during the preceding calendar year to the Governor, and the members of the General Assembly. "h. T o make rules, regulations and by-laws, not inconsistent with the law, for its meetings, procedures and the execution of the duties imposed upon it by this Act." The Act also provides that the Commission shall be advised in at least one meeting each quarter by a Committee of Delegates. T h e Committee shall be
