UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS

(5) On March 13, 1951, the Board of. Trustees approved a program of improvements at the Airport in cooperation with the Civil Aeronautics Administration and the State Department of Aeronautics on a fund-matching basis. The improvements include the resurfacing of the entrance road, drainage improvements, parking areas, resurfacing roads to airplane hangars, sewage disposal plant, and utility extensions and connections. Original allocations of funds for these improvements were: $60,000 from the Civil Aeronautics Administration, $45,000 from the State Department of Aeronautics, and $45,000 from the University. The Board authorized the State Department of Aeronautics jto act as its agent in preparing plans, advertising for bids, receiving bids, and supervising and conducting the letting and awarding of contracts upon the approval of the University Board of Trustees. The State Department of Aeronautics sent invitations to bid to more than three hundred contractors in Illinois and advertised twice in Champaign-Urbana newspapers. The only bids received are from the General Paving Company, Champaign, on the resurfacing of the access road connecting the Airport with U. S. Highway 45, including certain drainage improvements, resurfacing part of the parking areas, and resurfacing drives leading to hangars. The bids are $130,527.12 if the access road is resurfaced with concrete and $107,242.69 if with
