BOARD OF TRUSTEES

"It shall not have power to lease, sell, or purchase real estate unless previously authorized by the Board in session or a majority of the members individually in writing." AND WHEREAS the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees has recommended to the Executive Committee that it is to the best interest of the University to dispose of the above listed securities at this time, and the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees has approved such sale, Now therefore be it resolved by the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois in a duly constituted meeting on July 5, 1951, at Chicago, Illinois, that the securities listed above be sold at this time at the best price obtainable, and that Lloyd Morey, Comptroller, and A. J. Janata, Secretary, be authorized to execute any and all documents necessary to complete such sale.

At this point, Messrs. Fornof and Johnston withdrew.

BUSINESS PRESENTED BY THE PRESIDENT O F T H E UNIVERSITY

The Executive Committee considered the following recommendations and reports from the President of the University submitted for him by the Secretary of the Board,

PURCHASE O F RESIDENCE PROPERTY FOR FACULTY HOUSING

(1) The Board of Trustees has authorized the Executive Committee to purchase an additional residence property as part of the special program of residence property acquisitions for faculty housing. The purchase of the property at 706 West Indiana Avenue, Urbana, at a price of $25,000 is recommended. There is submitted with this recommendation a description of the property and a real estate appraisal. The property was on the market at $26,000, but the owner has agreed to sell it at the appraisal figure of $25,000. A special appropriation of $25,000 from the General Reserve for the purchase of this property is also recommended.

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, the purchase of this property was authorized and an appropriation of $25,000 was made for this purpose from the General Reserve by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Livingston, Mr. Megran, Mrs. Watkins; no, none; absent, none.

CONTRACT FOR E N G I N E E R I N G SERVICES

(2) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend a contract with E. C. Manthei, Champaign, to provide for the necessary mechanical drawings, specifications, and contractual documents for the electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilating, and refrigeration work required for_ the following projects: 1. West addition to the Stock Pavilion. 2. Modernization of the present transformer vault facilities at the Stock Pavilion. 3. Agricultural Engineering Addition. The contract will provide for payment of five per cent of the low bids for the mechanical work. Funds are available in the state appropriation for capital improvements for this contract. The President concurs and recommends that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract.

On motion of Mr. Megran, this contract was authorized.

PURCHASE OF FEEDER CATTLE

(3) It is difficult to predict in advance and secure approval for the purchase of cattle in the feeding programs at the University. The availability of cattle and feed and the relative prices for the different grades of feeder cattle make any program subject to many changes. Advanced approval is necessary since the
