CONTRACT FOR INSTALLATION OF AIR CONDITIONING IN EXPERIMENTAL QUARTERS IN DENTISTRY, MEDICINE, AND PHARMACY BUILDING (26) T h e Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for {2,973 to t h e Narowetz Heating and Ventilating Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for installation of air-conditioning equipment in one of the rooms in the Dentistry, Medicine, and Pharmacy Building which is being remodeled for housing an experimental colony of mice being brought to the University by Dr. Arthur Kirschbaum who has recently been appointed Head of the Department of Anatomy. He is using this colony for important research work on cancer for which he has received outside grants of funds. Funds are available in an appropriation made by the Board of Trustees for this remodeling. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract.

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, this contract was authorized.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR DIRECTOR W. ELLISON CHALMERS (27) Professor W. Ellison Chalmers, Director of the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations, has been asked to serve on the staff of the Wage Stabilization Board in Washington and has requested leave of absence without pay. I have approved this leave for the period beginning June 20, 1951, through August 31, 1952, and request confirmation of my action. I shall nominate an Acting Director later. In the meantime, Professor Milton Derber will act.

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, this leave was confirmed.

COLLEGE O F COMMERCE AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (28) President Stoddard reported on the status of faculty consideration of proposals for changes in the organization of the College of Commerce and Business Administration now before the Board of Trustees on which action by the Board was deferred when these proposals were presented on May 18, 1951. He stated t h a t Acting Dean R. R. Hudelson of the College has requested more time for the study now under way and has suggested further postponement of a decision until the July meeting of the Board. President Livingston presented a letter from Mr. Henry C. Hawes, Chairman of the College of Commerce and Business Administration Advisory Committee, stating that his Committee has been studying the reorganization recommended to the Board and has obtained information from the Acting Dean and members of the
