planning of printing jobs, including typographical lay-out, design, printing, and engravings; review printing for quality of workmanship; make preliminary estimate of costs of production on printing work; perform supervisory duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation; at least five years of experience as foreman of a composing room, or ten years of experience in composing room work; thorough knowledge of printing methods of production and printing equipment; competence as a Compositor; ability to operate linotype or monotype desirable; thorough knowledge of book and job printing; ability to lead and supervise; good judgment; tact; ability to deal harmoniously with others; minimum age thirty. Office Supervisor DEFINITION: Under administrative supervision, to be responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of a large and complex centralized office unit. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O be responsible for the operational details of the office; supervise and train office personnel; adapt work schedule to meet all situations; develop and initiate efficient office procedures; perform some minor research or statistical work as required; answer the routine correspondence of the division; collect data and prepare final reports, as well as rough drafts; be responsible for trustworthiness of employees and for the safety, repair, maintenance, and inventory of departmental equipment, for the safety and security of departmental records, cash, and documents; enforce safety regulations; exercise initiative in calling unsafe physical conditions to the attention of the proper authorities; initiate and sign requisitions, vouchers, and payrolls; keep budget accounts, often involving cost accounting; determine procedures of work, flow of work, assignments, coordination, production, and be responsible for quality of work produced; handle personnel problems of staff within unit; give out authoritative information; meet and answer inquiries of faculty, students, and staff; perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: University or college graduation required, unless offset by experience of special value and significance; five years of office administrative and supervisory experience, preferably in a college or university; minimum age twenty-five. Tabulating Machine Supervisor DEFINITION: Under supervision, to be engaged in responsible tabulating operations, and in supervision of such operations, in a central statistical service unit. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O plan varied and difficult clerical, key punching, verifying, and tabulating operations; determine personnel and equipment requirements and plan operations necessary to perform assigned tabulating functions; instruct and train subordinates in machine operations and work of the unit; prepare or supervise t h e preparation of unit personnel reports, requisitions for supplies, and equipment; consult with superiors regarding work and functions of unit; develop original and difficult wiring techniques; operate tabulating machines; perform related work as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: University graduation, with special training in accounting and/or engineering; experience with tabulating and statistical equipment, preferably one year of which should have been in a college or university; good working knowledge of operation, efficiency, and care of tabulating equipment and of the applications of such equipment to statistical and administrative problems; working knowledge of office procedures and methods; basic knowledge of policies and procedures common to a university or college tabulating unit; ability to design punch card layouts, to operate punch card tabulating equipment, to lay out wiring designs and wire machines for difficult jobs, and to develop procedures and forms for tabulating operations; ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions; personality conducive to dealing harmoniously with faculty and staff; minimum age twenty-five. Photographic Technician DEFINITION: Under direct supervision, to do photographic work requiring skill and training in photography. D U T I E S BY EXAMPLE: T O print photographs; develop negatives; make lantern slides both 3>^* by 4" and 2" by 2"; assist in photographic experiments; perform related duties in the photographic laboratory as directed. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation; thorough knowledge of and training in photography; at least two years of experience in photographic work desirable; good physical condition; tact; pleasing personality; minimum age twenty-one.
