PATENT FOR IMPROVEMENT IN I N D U C T I O N ACCELERATORS

(20) The Secretary has received United States Letters Patent No. 2,545,958 for a new and useful improvement in "Induction Accelerators," issued by the Commissioner of Patents to the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. The patent has been granted on application of Professor Donald W. Kerst, the inventor, who assigned it to the University. The invention relates to an induction accelerator, and more particularly to an improved arrangement for causing the accelerated charged particles, as electrons, to be ejected from the induction accelerator in a usable beam. The title of the patent, "Induction Accelerators," is broad terminology as the specific patent granted has to do with a device known as a "peeler" which is used in the Betatron for removal of free electron beams. It has been used experimentally in nuclear physics and can also be used in medical therapy.

This report was received for record.
