UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS APPROPRIATION FOR DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE

(10) The Dean of the College of Agriculture and the Comptroller recommend that an appropriation of $1,645 be made from accumulated receipts in the Department of Horticulture for remodeling in the Horticulture Field Laboratory. These funds are available in surplus receipts of the Department. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Grange, this appropriation was made, as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Fornof, Mr. Grange, Mr. Herrick, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Livingston, Mr. Megran, Mr. Nickell, Mrs. Watkins; no, none; absent, Mr. Hickman, Mr. Stevenson.

CONTRACT FOR RESURFACING PARKING LOT AT POLK STREET AND HERMITAGE A V E N U E , CHICAGO

(11) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $1,903.20 to Blacktop Roads Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for resurfacing with asphalt the parking lot at Polk Street and Hermitage Avenue to provide a permanent parking lot for the faculty at the Chicago Professional Colleges. This type of surfacing is more permanent than cinders or crushed rock, eliminates dust, and costs less than a concrete pavement. Funds are available in the Physical Plant Department budget for this work. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract.

On motion of Mr. Johnston, this contract was awarded as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR TUCK POINTING OF APARTMENT BUILDING AT 8 2 9 - 8 3 3 S O U T H MARSHFIELD A V E N U E , CHICAGO

(12) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $1,740 to the Lew Worthem Building Maintenance Company, Chicago, for tuck pointing the apartment building at 829-833 South Marshfield Avenue, Chicago, to prevent further deterioration of exterior walls and to correct moisture conditions inside of the walls. The property is being conveyed to the University by the Medical Center Commission. The building is to be remodeled and used for housing. Funds will be available and have been budgeted for this remodeling in the construction account to be set up from the proceeds of sale of revenue bonds to finance the Chicago housing projects. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract.

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, this contract was awarded as recommended.

ADDITION TO CONTRACT FOR KITCHEN EQUIPMENT FOR ADDITION TO RESEARCH A N D EDUCATIONAL HOSPITALS

(13) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend an addition of $2,023.80 to the contract with the Stearnes Company for kitchen equipment for the addition to the Research and Educational Hospitals for improvement of operation and maintenance of departmental areas, changes necessary in certain areas to correct oversights in original planning, better supervision of employees, and compliance with Board of Health regulations. This has been approved by the Vice-President in charge of the Chicago Professional Colleges. Funds are available in the state appropriation for the construction of this building. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller be authorized to execute this change in the contract.

On motion of Mrs. Holt, authority was given as recommended.
