B U S I N E S S P R E S E N T E D BY T H E P R E S I D E N T O F T H E UNIVERSITY The Board considered the following reports and recommendations from the President of the University. AWARD O F C E R T I F I C A T E S O F C E R T I F I E D P U B L I C A C C O U N T A N T (1) T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of Certified Public Accountant be awarded, under Section 5 of t h e Accountancy Act of 1043, to the following candidates who have presented evidence that they a r e holders of valid and unrevoked Certified Public Accountant certificates obtained by passing a standard written examination in another state or territory of the United States and who qualify in all other respects under this provision of the law: TINDALL E V A N S CASHION (Calif.) C . ) (Term.) I concur. On motion of Mr. Nickell, these certificates were awarded, as recommended. A P P O I N T M E N T S T O T H E FACULTY (2) The following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of Assistant P r o fessor and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. 1. Ross J. MARTIN, change in status from Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering ( A ) , to the position of Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering ( A Y ) and Associate Director of the Engineering Experiment Station ( D Y ) , beginning February 1, 1951, at an annual salary of $7,500. 2. JACK WALTER PELTASON, Assistant Professor of Political Science, beginning September 1, 1951, at an annual salary of $4,800 ( B ) . 3. GLADYS P U G H WHORTON, Assistant Professor of Education, beginning February 1, 1951, at an annual salary of $5,200 ( G ) . On motion of Mr. Johnston, these appointments were confirmed. SABBATICAL LEAVES O F ABSENCE, 1951-195 2 (3) I recommend that the following members of the staff be given sabbatical leaves of absence during the academic year 1951-1952 in accordance with the provisions of the University of Illinois Statutes and on the terms and for the periods indicated. The programs of research, study, and travel for which these leaves a r e r e Quested have been examined by the University Research Board which advises the President in such matters. T h e Research Board's report to t h e President includes an evaluation of the program in terms of benefits to the University and to the individual.
