training in one of the hospitals in the affiliation program for hospital schools of nursing. These hospitals are Cook County, Michael Reese, Presbyterian, and St. Luke's. T h e professional program in nursing is administered by t h e Chicago Professional Colleges. T h e University Senate recommends adoption of a two-year prenursing curriculum to be administered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. It is proposed t h a t the admission requirements be t h e same as those for admission to the general curriculum in liberal arts and sciences plus one unit of algebra and one unit of plane geometry. Admission will be restricted to students from sixteen to twenty-eight years of age, provided that students between twenty-eight and thirty-three years of age may enter subject t o approval of a Nursing Advisory Committee. It is proposed t h a t a minimum of sixty semester hours be required in t h e prenursing curriculum to include the following courses: Credit Hours Rhetoric and Composition 6 v Social Sciences (including the equivalent of a course in sociology and a course in psychology) 12 Humanities • 6 Chemistry (one year of general and one semester of organic chemistry) 10 Biological Sciences (including a course in bacteriology) 8 Physics (a course specially designed for nurses or a year of college physics; special course not offered a t Urbana) 4 Electives (one year of foreign language recommended) 14 Physical Education (four semesters) _^_ Total 60 If the student changes from prenursing to some other curriculum, then Hygiene, which is not required in t h e nursing program, will be required for t h e degree. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Herrick, this curriculum was approved as recommended.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO C U R R I C U L U M PREPARATORY TO TEACHING IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS (10) The University Senate recommends adoption of the following requirements for admission to the curriculum preparatory to teaching in elementary schools in the College of Education: 1. F o r admission as freshmen, the entrance requirements for general admission to the University will apply. 2. In general, admission of transfer students, either from other institutions or from other colleges of the University of Illinois, will be limited to students having a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher, in terms of the University of Illinois grading system, provided that admission of transfer students whose scholastic average is below 3.5 will be considered on petition in individual cases. 3. Petitions for admission will be considered by a committee which will make recommendations to the Dean of the College of Education. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Livingston, these recommendations were approved.

REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION W I T H HONORS IN THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (11) The University Senate recommends adoption of the following requirements for graduation with honors from the College of Education: 1. T o be eligible a student must have earned in residence the final sixty-four semester hours of credit. 2. A student who achieves a specific scholastic average in all work presented for graduation and in all courses in education may be recommended for honors as follows: a scholastic average of not less than 4.25 — graduation with honors; a scholastic average of not less than 4.50 — graduation with high honors; a scholastic average of not less than 4.75 — graduation with highest honors.
