BOARD OF TRUSTEES

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, leading to the degree of Bachelor of Arts: Major. Twenty hours in English excluding Rhetoric 100, 101, 102, 151, 200, 242, 271, 272, English 101, 102, 103, 121, 122, 291, and including ten hours of English or American literature, at least six of which must be chosen from advanced groups, and ten hours of Composition chosen from Rhetoric 133, 144, 205, 206, 227, 2 3o. 255, 256, and including at least one course in expository writing. With the permission of the adviser one of the following courses may be counted toward a Composition major: Speech 263, 363, Journalism 226, 227, 229. Minor. Twenty hours in (a) Latin, Greek, French, German, Spanish, Italian, or Portuguese, or (b) in any two of those languages, or (c) in one of those languages and philosophy, or (d) in one of those languages and history, or (e) in history and philosophy, or (f) in any one of these subjects and psychology. No language courses may be regarded as satisfying the minor requirements if they are excluded from the majors of the language department, with the exception of elementary courses in Greek and Latin, French 103, 104, Italian 103, 104, and Spanish 103, 107. At least eight hours must be taken in each subject if two are chosen. I concur.

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, this recommendation was adopted.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A MAJOR IN HISTORY OF ART IN THE COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS A N D SCIENCES

(7) The University Senate recommends adoption of the following program of major and minor requirements for a major in history of art in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, leading to the degree of Bachelor of Arts: Major. Twenty hours in art, excluding Art 185 and 186. The major must include Art m , 112, 188, and 189, and at least ten hours chosen from Art 311, 312, 313, 314. 315. 3i6, 317, 318. Minor. Twenty hours in any one or two of the following subjects: English, Greek, history, Latin, philosophy, psychology, sociology and anthropology, and speech. At least eight hours must be taken in each subject if two are chosen. The minor may also be taken in the curriculum in medieval civilization or the curriculum in Latin-American studies. I concur. O n motion of M r s . Watkins, this recommendation was adopted.

CURRICULUM IN HISTORY OF ART IN T H E COLLEGE OF FINE A N D APPLIED ARTS

(8) The University Senate recommends adoption of the following curriculum in history of art in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, leading to the degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts. This is the fifth curriculum or option to be offered in art; the others previously approved are in painting, industrial design, advertising design, and art education. The general requirements for admission to, and graduation from, the curriculum in history of art are the same as for the other options. All have a common freshman program. This curriculum requires 130 hours of credit for graduation. Following is the proposed curriculum in detail.
