On motion of Mr. Fornof, authority was given as recommended, and an appropriation of $4,000 was made from the General Reserve Fund by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Fornof, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hickman, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McLaughlin, Mr. Nickell, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Doctor Meyer, Mr. Stevenson.

REMODELING IN RESEARCH A N D EDUCATIONAL HOSPITALS (23) The Vice-President in Charge of the Chicago Professional Colleges, the Comptroller, and the Director of the Physical Plant recommend award of contracts as follows for remodeling in the present Research and Educational Hospitals to coordinate with the construction of the new hospital addition: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology — Frank H . Stowell Company, Chicago $142 091 This remodeling is on the third floor in the south and west sections of the general hospital. Department of Otolaryngology — Perry Construction Company, Inc., Chicago 77 950 This remodeling will include rehabilitation of existing sanitary and supply lines, modernization of cubicles, construction of a small office and soundproof examination room and provision of classroom facilities. Air conditioning of part of first floor and basement of hospitals: General work — Carroll Construction Company, Chicago $ 5 277 Mechanical work — M. J. Corboy Company, Chicago 18 690 23 967 This work will include air conditioning of the interior rooms on the first floor, south section of the hospital, and will provide for later inclusion of humidity controls needed by the Department of Physical Medicine. Replacement of elevators: General work — Mueller Construction Company, Chicago 19 600 Elevator installation — Elevator Manufacturing Company of America, Chicago 45 340 64 940 This will replace elevators 3 and 4 of the general hospital which are in such poor condition that it is not economical to repair them. Unless they are replaced, continual shutdowns of these two elevators may be expected, thus hampering the functioning of the hospitals. Mechanical installations in basement — M. J. Corboy Company, Chicago.. 148 255 This will include changes in plumbing and steam services, rehabilitation of supply lines to provide a separate hot water supply, installation of condensate pumps and water supply to take care of the present load and to provide for future requirements. Electrical installations in basement — Wadeford Electric Company, Chicago 95 968 This work will include reinforcement or replacement of the electrical services to the various risers and reinforcement of risers to provide for additional power requirements. It will also include installation of switchgear in the new hospital addition to provide electrical service from that source. By doing this work now, it is possible, through the integration of a switchboard for the hospital addition with this project to save considerable money over what such work would require later. Total of All Contracts $553 171 These contractors are the lowest bidders on the various phases of the remodeling work. A tabulation of the bids is submitted herewith. Funds are available in the state appropriation for "Construction of addition to present hospital," subject to release by the Governor.
