Electrical distribution system cable, load center equipment, and miscellaneous work incidental to the construction of the Animal Sciences Laboratory and Veterinary Medicine Building — Square Deal Electric, Urbana 79 248 These are the lowest bids on each project. Funds are available in the state appropriation for "Construction of extensions to the Utility Distribution System" at Urbana-Champaign. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute these contracts, subject to the release of funds by the Governor. O n motion of M r . Hickman, authority was given as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR THE INSTALLATION O F STEEL ROLLING SHUTTERS IN T H E RESEARCH A N D EDUCATIONAL HOSPITALS, CHICAGO

(16) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract for $8,975 to Perry Construction Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for the installation of steel rolling shutters in the Research and Educational Hospitals, Chicago. The installation covers fire doors at five different locations: Between Illinois Surgical Institute and Institute for Juvenile Research, the basement, first, second, third, fourth, and fifth floors. Between the general hospital and the second unit of the Dentistry, Medicine, and Pharmacy Building, first floor. Intersection of the east and west tunnel with main tunnel. Intersection of tunnel and the Illinois Neuropsychiatric Institute basement. Tunnel entrance to Nurses Home. Funds are available in the Physical Plant Department budget for this work. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract. O n motion of M r s . W a t k i n s , authority was given as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR SURFACING OF DRIVES

(17) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of contracts as follows: For resurfacing of McKinley Hospital parking area, a section of the entrance drive, and construction of concrete curb — Champaign Asphalt Company, Champaign $ 3 060 90 For resurfacing of streets in the Parade Ground area — Illiana Construction Company, Urbana 16 282 89 These are the lowest bids for each job. Funds are available for these improvements. I concur and request that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute these contracts. O n motion of M r . Livingston, authority w a s given as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR SURFACING OF DRIVES IN SMALL HOMES C O U N C I L STAFF HOUSING RESEARCH PROJECT AREA

(18) When the Small Homes Council Staff Housing Research Project was completed in 1949, it was not possible to finish surfacing all driveways before cold weather, and only the rock base was installed. Bids were invited on three methods of surfacing and finishing these drives. Only two bids were received, both of them on hot-mix asphalt application: Champaign Asphalt Company, Champaign $4 175 McCalman Construction Company, Danville 5 5°0 The prices include widening of drives at curves where difficulty has been experienced by tenants. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract for $4,175 to the Champaign Asphalt Company. An appropriation from the general funds of the University is necessary.
