and released (Releases Nos. 14 and 23) $150,000 for remodeling in the William Albert Noyes Laboratory of Chemistry. The funds now released are for (1) erection of turbine generator ($7,000), (2) furnishing and installation of steam, water, condensate, compressed air, turbine oil, fuel piping and equipment ($104,289), (3) construction of brick chimney ($56,500), (4) insulation of all piping for the new turbine generator ($9,789), and (5) allowance for adjustment ($3,500). Release No. 37 "For Permanent Improvements at Urbana-Champaign — Construction of extensions to the Utility Distribution Systems" n o 000 This is a partial release .from an appropriation of $375,000. The Governor has previously released (Release No. 12) $40,000 for architectural and engineering services in connection with this project. The funds now released are for (1) modernization of transformer vaults at Davenport Hall and the Natural History Building ($18,778), (2) electrical distribution system cable, load center equipment and miscellaneous work incidental to construction of the Animal Sciences Laboratory and the Veterinary Medicine Building ($79,248), and (3) for supplementary labor (approximately

$12,000).

I recommend that these funds be appropriated by the Board for the purposes indicated.

On motion of Mr. Livingston, these funds were appropriated, as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Livingston, Mr. Williamson; absent, Mr. McLaughlin.

CONTRACT FOR STEAM SERVICE

(8) Bids have been received for the extension of steam service to the Animal Sciences Laboratory. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract in the amount of $13,956 to Gallaher and Speck, Inc., Chicago, the lowest bidder. Funds are available in the state appropriation for the "Construction of Animal Sciences Laboratory" and have been released by the Governor. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract.

On motion of Mr. Livingston, this contract was awarded as recommended.

APPROPRIATIONS FOR T H E COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE

(9) The Dean of the College of Agriculture and the Comptroller recommend that the following appropriations be made from accumulated agricultural income which has been reserved for agricultural purposes. One truck for the Department of Animal Science $2 160 (The Swine Division is the only production division in the Animal Science Department not motorized. The addition of a truck will enable workers to accomplish their tasks in less time and with fewer trips. It is planned to purchase a heavy four-wheel drive truck, platform bed type, equipped with hydraulic hoist that can also be used for pulling posts and other similar jobs in the erection of fences.) Construction of a concrete feed lot south of the Beef Cattle Scale House 2 800 Total $4 960 I concur.
