Mr. Grange, C h a i r m a n of the Merit Board, discussed the recommendations m a d e by that Board. On motion of M r . Grange, the statements of policy recommended bv the Merit Board with respect to W o r k Week, Overtime Pay, and Disability Leave with Full P a y were approved, and action on Legal Holidays and Vacations with Full P a y was deferred pending further consideration by an a p p r o p r i a t e committee of the Board of Trustees. President Livingston referred these two recommendations to the Committee on Nonacademic Personnel and the Committee on General Policy for consideration jointly and report to the Board. CONTRACT FOR STONEWORK REPAIRS ON DENTISTRYMEDICINE-PHARMACY B U I L D I N G (16) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract for $7,760 to Knut Upstrom, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for stonework repairs on the second unit of the Dentistry-Medicine-Pharmacy Building. This unit was constructed in 1937. Some of the stonework at the top of the fifteen-story tower has loosened and shifted in several places which creates a hazardous situation. Funds are available in the Physical Plant Department budget. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract. On motion of M r s . W a t k i n s , this contract was authorized. CONTRACT FOR REROOFING DRILL H A L L AT CHICAGO UNDERGRADUATE DIVISION (17) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract for $3,180 to the Esko Roofing Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for reroofing the Drill Hall at Navy Pier. Under the terms of the lease with the city of Chicago such repairs are the obligation of the University. Funds are available in the Physical Plant Department budget. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract. On motion of M r . Nickell, this contract was authorized. CONTRACT FOR REMODELING QUARTERS AT CHICAGO UNDERGRADUATE DIVISION (i?) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award pt a contract for $5,873 to the Mueller Construction Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for remodeling of quarters at Navy Pier to provide offices and storeroom space needed for the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps program. the Board of Trustees has already appropriated funds for this work. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract. On motion of M r . Grange, this contract was authorized. CONTRACT FOR LANDSCAPING ON A N I M A L SCIENCES AND VETERINARY MEDICINE BUILDINGS AREAS U9) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award °t a contract for $21,000 to Ralph Synnestvedt and Associates, Glenview, Illinois, 1 lowest bidder, for landscaping the siles of the Animal Sciences Laboratory and the Veterinary Medicine Building. Funds are available in the state appropriations for the construction of these •wildings: $11,200 to be charged to the appropriation for the Animal Sciences -aboratory and $0,800 to be charged to the appropriation for the Veterinary Medicine Building. con ur an ? d recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board De authorized to execute this contract.
