Candidates may petition for a waiver of the thesis requirement. Those who are excused are required to secure two units of credit in lieu of thesis credit and in addition are required to take and pass a final comprehensive written examination in recreation. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Fornof, this curriculum was authorized.

CHANGES IN REQUIREMENTS FOR T H E DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF LAWS

(9) The Faculty of the College of Law and the University Senate recommend that the requirements for graduation -with the degree of Bachelor of Laws be amended to read as follows: All students who enter the College of Law as candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Laws are required, as conditions for graduation with that degree (a) to enroll in and complete the work in all courses listed in the law curriculum for first-year students, and (b) to enroll in and complete the work in at least one seminar course listed in the law curriculum for advanced students. Students entering after September I, 1952, will be subject to the requirements as amended. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Herrick, these changes in graduation requirements were authorized as recommended.

DEGREE O F BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN N U R S I N G

(10) The faculty of the School of Nursing and the University Senate recommend establishment of the following program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing open to all holders of the Diploma in Nursing conferred by any of the hospital schools of nursing affiliated with the University of Illinois. At present these are Michael Reese Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, and Cook County Hospital, all in Chicago. The program consists of four semesters, plus one summer session or halfsemester of eight weeks. The first two semesters are in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, either in Urbana or at the Chicago Undergraduate Division, the third semester in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Urbana, and the remainder in the University of Illinois School of Nursing, with residence as indicated. Requirements for Admission Admission shall be to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and will be granted upon fulfillment of the following conditions. (a) Certification by the University of Illinois School of Nursing that the candidate holds the Diploma in Nursing from one of the affiliated schools, there received grades averaging 3.5 in theory and practice and is recommended by the affiliated school. (b) Satisfaction of the requirements for admission to the general curriculum in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. (c) Certification by the University of Illinois School of Nursing that the candidate has achieved on the Graduate Nurse Test Battery of the National League of Nursing Education a score not lower than V/2 s.d. below the mean of collegiate norms for each of the clinical fields. This certification shall entitle the candidate to a block credit of forty semester hours in Clinical Nursing. (d) Certification by the University of Illinois School of Nursing that the candidate has passed examinations (as set by the National League of Nursing Education) for advanced standing in Microbiology (four semester hours) and Anatomy and Physiology (five semester hours). (e) Passing of examinations for advanced standing in Rhetoric and Composition (six semester hours) and General Chemistry (five semester hours), administered by the appropriate departments of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. (f) Failure to demonstrate proficiency in any or all of the fields listed under paragraphs (d) and (e) shall not preclude admission to the Continuation Program,
