On motion of Mr. Herrick, this resolution was adopted by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Fornof, Mr. Grange, Mr. Herrick, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Livingston, Mr. Megran, Mrs. Watkins; no, none; absent, Mr. Hickman, Mr. Nickell, Mr. Stevenson. At this point, Mr. Nickell took his place with the Board.

EXPANSION OF S T U D E N T RESIDENCE HALLS FACILITIES AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN

(24) The Board of Trustees has authorized the expansion of student residence halls facilities at Urbana-Champaign including: I. Construction of a dormitory type of permanent residence hall for 288 men and modernization of Busey Hall. II. ( a ) Construction of a new unit to provide food service for 1000 men and housing for 96 men; ( b ) Conversion of food service areas in the present men's halls into living quarters for 76 additional men; ( c ) Modernization of Evans Hall; ( d ) Refinancing of present bond issue on the Men's Residence Halls. Contracts for Phase I were awarded and this work is under way. The estimated cost of the entire project (I and II) was $1,702,800. The Board has allocated $250,000 for construction plus $42,000 for preparation of plans for Phase II. The balance of the funds needed would be secured by a revenue bond issue. Bids received on Phase I I indicate a total cost of $2,312,600. The increase over the estimate is due (a) in part to an architectural error in the original estimate of floor area and cubage on which financial estimates were based; (b) in part to a major increase in the size of the project after estimates had been prepared, a decision made by the architects without consulting the University; and (c^ in part to an increase in construction costs.
