The Board considered the following recommendations and reports presented by President Stoddard.

AWARD O F CERTIFIED PUBLIC A C C O U N T A N T CERTIFICATES

(1) The Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of Certified Public Accountant be awarded, under Section 5 of the Accountancy Act of 1943, to the following candidates who have presented evidence that they are holders of valid and unrevoked Certified Public Accountant certificates obtained by passing a standard written examination in another state or territory of the United States and who qualify in all other respects under this provision of the law: Slate from Which They Name Address Obtained Certificates

APPOINTMENTS T O T H E FACULTY

(2) The following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of Assistant Professor and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees.

1. FRED EDWARD FIEDLER, Research Assistant Professor of Education, Grad-

uate College, beginning October I, 1051, at an annual salary of $5,800 (DY). 2. MURRAY FRANKLIN, Assistant Professor of Medicine, beginning September 1, 1051, at an annual salary of $7,500 (BY).

3. WILLIAM P. MCLURE, Associate Professor of Education (AY), to be Act-

ing Director of the Bureau of Research and Service for one year from September 1, 1951, at a salary of $9,000, an increase of $045 over his salary as Associate Professor as additional compensation for administrative duties. The Director of Nonacademic Personnel reports the following appointments to supervisory positions of upper level responsibility:

1. WILMER DAVID BINKLEY, Placement Officer in the Office of Nonacademic

Personnel, Chicago, beginning September 25, 1951, at an annual salary of $3,300. 2. JOHN C. COATES, Greenhouse Supervisor, Department of Botany, beginning September I, 1951, at an annual salary of $3,600.

3. HARRY G. HIGGENS, JR., Assistant Administrator, Research and Educa-

tional Hospitals, Chicago, beginning September 24, 1951, at an annual salary of

$7,200.

4. MIRIAM R. ROTHSTEIN, Food Production Manager, Residence Halls, beginning September 11, 1951, at an annual Salary of $3,500, plus meals. O n motion of M r . Johnston, these appointments were confirmed.

APPOINTMENT T O BOARD O F EXAMINERS IN A C C O U N T A N C Y

(3) The faculty Committee on Accountancy recommends the appointment of Mr. James A. Velde of the firm of Gardner, Carton, and Douglas, Chicago, as the law member of the Board of Examiners in Accountancy for a term of three years beginning July 1, 1951, replacing Mr. Albert E. Jenner, Jr., whose term has expired. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Herrick, this appointment was approved.
