Funds are available for the foregoing changes in the State appropriation for the "Construction of a new Electrical Engineering Building." All of these changes are recommended by the Department of Electrical Engineering. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute these additions to the original contract.

On motion of Mr. Davis, authority was given as recommended.

PURCHASE OF FURNITURE FOR PUBLIC AREAS OF NEW W O M E N ' S RESIDENCE HALL (34) In considering the furnishings for the new Women's Residence Hall, I asked a special committee consisting of Professor F r a n k Roos, Chairman, the late Professor Alta Gwinn Saunders, and Professors Janice Smith and A. C. Littleton to review the problem. The committee recommended that the College of Agriculture be given the responsibility of carrying this project through to completion, working through the Home Economics Department and in conjunction with the Business Office and Physical Plant Department. This responsibility was accepted by Dean Rusk, who assigned Assistant Professor Dorothy J. Iwig of the Home Economics Department to work under his direction and with the aid of an advisory committee. The advisory committee thus appointed included the following: Dorothy J. Iwig, Assistant Professor of Home Furnishings Extension, Chairman Doris Brockway, Assistant Professor of Home Economics A. S. Davis, Associate Architect H. M. Edwards, Director of Purchases J. D. Hogan, Associate Professor of Art Florence King, Assistant Professor of Home Economics Miriam A. Shelden, Dean of Women J. R. Shipley, Assistant Professor of Art S. E. Thompson, Director of Residence Halls Specifications for the equipment approved by the committee were submitted for competitive bids under various headings. Bids were invited from sixteen companies, and bids were received from ten firms. The bids have been reviewed by the Director of Purchases and Professor Iwig, who recommend that orders be placed with the lowest bidder for each group of items, as follows: Chicago Seating Company, Chicago $15 054 44 Mandel Brothers, Chicago 10 511 11 L. B. Herbst Corp., Chicago 13 528 69 Kiler's, Inc., Champaign 791 81 Block & Kuhl, Peoria 2 293 00 Total $42 179 05 The Director of the Physical dorse this recommendation. UNIVERSITY'S SHARE OF SEWAGE DISPOSAL COSTS (35) On April 24, 1947 (Minutes, page 343), the Board approved a plan under which the University pays part of the operating costs of sewage disposal
