APPOINTMENT OF PROFESSOR ALLEN STUART WELLER AS HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ART ( i ) The Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts recommends the appointment of Dr. Allen S. Weller, now Professor of the History of Art in the Graduate College, as Professor and Head of the Department of Art in the College of Fine and Applied Arts on indefinite tenure beginning September I, 1049, at a salary of $9,000 an academic year. Professor Weller has been serving as Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Department of Art since September 1, 1948. I concur in this recommendation. O n m o t i o n of M r . L i v i n g s t o n , t h i s a p p o i n t m e n t w a s m a d e a s r e c ommended. APPOINTMENT OF HEAD OF DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL ENGINEERING DRAWING (2) Professor H . H. Jordan, Head of the Department of General Engineering Drawing, has for many years been serving as Associate Dean of the College of Engineering. The College of Engineering requires his services as Associate Dean on a full-time basis. It is therefore recommended that: 1. Professor Jordan be relieved of the headship of the Department of General Engineering Drawing and be appointed Associate Dean of the College of Engineering for two years from September I, 1949, and Professor of General Engineering Drawing on indefinite tenure, at an annual salary of $10,500. 2. Professor R. P. Hoelscher, formerly of the Department of General Engineering Drawing, who has been serving as Dean of Engineering Sciences at the Chicago Undergraduate Division (Navy P i e r ) for the past three years, be appointed Professor and Head of the Department of General Engineering Drawing on indefinite tenure from September I, 1949, at a salary of $8,300 an academic year. I concur in these recommendations. O n m o t i o n of M r . M c L a u g h l i n , t h e s e a p p o i n t m e n t s w e r e m a d e as recommended. APPOINTMENT OF HALVOR ORIN HALVORSON AS PROFESSOR AND HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF BACTERIOLOGY (3) The Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recommends the appointment of Halvor Orin Halvorson, now Professor of Bacteriology at the University of Minnesota, as Professor and Head of the Department of Bacteriology on indefinite tenure beginning September 1, 1949, at a salary of $9,000 an academic year. I concur.

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, this appointment was made as recommended.

APPOINTMENT OF JOHN LEWIS HELLER AS PROFESSOR A N D HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CLASSICS

(4) T h e Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recommends the appointment of John Lewis Heller, now Professor and Chairman of the Department of Classics at the University of Minnesota, as Professor and Head of the Department of Classics on indefinite tenure beginning September 1, 1949, at a salary of $8,000 an academic year. I concur.

On motion of Mr. McLaughlin, this appointment was made as recommended.

AWARD OF CERTIFICATES OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT (5) The Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of Certified Public Accountant be awarded the following who have made applications therefor under Section 5 of the Accountancy Act of 1043. They have all submitted evidence that they are holders of valid and unrevoked certificates which they obtained in
