On motion of Dr. Meyer, these purchases were authorized as recommended. DECEMBER 29, 1947

GIFT FROM MR. AND MRS. MERLE J . TREES (1) Under the conditions outlined in their letter of November 29, 1937, offering to establish the "Emily Nichols Trees (Class of 1905) and Merle Jay Trees (Class of 1907) Collection" of paintings at the University of Illinois, and pursuant to the resolution of acceptance adopted by the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees on December 18, 1937 (Minutes, page 587), Mr. and Mrs. Trees offer as their gift for 1947 the following paintings to be added to their collection: Teniers, Landscape, "Steen Castle" $10 300 00 Delacroix, "VAmende Honorable" 8 000 00 Total Value $18 300 00 Certificates of appraisal from the Art Institute of Chicago showing the value of these paintings will be deposited with the Secretary of the Board of Trustees for record. I recommend acceptance of these paintings.

On motion of Mr. Davis, this gift was accepted, and the President of the University was requested to convey to Mr. and Mrs. Trees an expression of the appreciation of the University for their continued generosity.

AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR PIPING WORK AT ABBOTT POWER PLANT (2) Bids were requested on piping work in the Abbott Power Plant addition from a number of contractors and by advertisement. Two bids were received: William A. Pope Company, $131,770.00, and Phillips-Getschow Company, $138,945.00. The bid of William A. Pope is subject to a maximum escalation of 18 per cent, and that of Phillips-Getschow Company to a maximum escalation of 15 per cent. Sargent and Lundy recommend, and the Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller concur, that the contract be awarded to the lowest bidder, the William A. Pope Company, at $131,770.00, subject to a maximum escalation of 18 per cent or a total maximum of $155,488.60. Funds are available. I concur and request authorization of the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board to execute this contract.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, this contract was awarded and authorization given as recommended.

AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR INDOOR UNIT SUBSTATION FOR UTILITIES DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM IN CHICAGO (3) Bids were requested on an indoor unit substation in the switchroom of the Utilities Distribution System in Chicago from a number of contractors and by advertisements. Three bids were received: General I.T.E. Circuit Westinghouse Electric Breaker Electric Company Company Corporation Bid price. ¥30,754.00 #29,953.00 #33,394.00 Delivery time 18 months 60 weeks 22 months Sargent and Lundy, engineers for this project, recommend, and the Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller concur, that the purchase be made from
