ACTIONS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Secretary reported for record that the Executive Committee, on December 16 and December 29, 1947, had taken action on recommendations of the President of the University as follows. DECEMBER 16, 1947

RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT OFFER OF CITY OF CHICAGO OF PERMISSION TO INSTALL AND MAINTAIN DUCT RUNS AND MANHOLES (1) On October 29, 1947, the City of Chicago passed a City Ordinance granting to the University of Illinois permission to install concrete duct runs under and across certain city streets. The Director of the Physical Plant Department asks adoption of resolution by the Board of Trustees accepting this offer. This is necessary to enable the University to carry out its extensions of service lines at the Chicago Professional campus. The attached resolution has been drawn by the Legal Counsel and its adoption is recommended by the Comptroller. I concur in the recommendation.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, the following resolution was unanimously adopted as recommended.

RESOLUTION Be it resolved by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois that: The Ordinance of the City of Chicago, passed by the City Council at its regular meeting on October 29, 1947, which grants permission to the University of Illinois to install and maintain concrete duct runs and manholes under and across certain streets in the City of Chicago, a copy of which Ordinance is hereto attached, be and the same is hereby accepted according to the terms of the Ordinance.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS GRANTED PERMISSION TO INSTALL AND MAINTAIN CONCRETE DUCT R U N S AND MANHOLES

Alderman Sain moved to concur in the recommendation of the Committee on Local Industries, Streets and Alleys that the City Council pass the proposed ordinance submitted with the committee's report for a grant to the University of Illinois. The motion prevailed and said proposed ordinance was passed, by 3reas and nays as follows: Yeas — Aldermen Budinger, Harvey, Carey, Cohen, Merriam, Hogan, Bohling, Olin, DuBois, Pacini, Wall, Kucharski, Egan, Wagner, Sheridan, Murphy, O'Hallaren, Duffy, Pistilli, Ropa, Janousek, Tourek, London, Bowler, Biezczat, Sain, Kells, Gillespie, Hughes, Keane, Rostenkowski, Brandt, Geisler, Orlikoski, Ringa, Lancaster, Cullerton, Brody, Becker, Immel, Crowe, Bauler, Burmeister, Merryman, Young, Hoellen, Freeman, Keenan, Weber — 49. Nays — None. The following is said ordinance as passed: Be It Ordained by the City Council of the City of Chicago: SECTION I . Permission and authority hereby are given and granted to The University of Illinois, a corporation, its successors and assigns, upon the terms and subject to the conditions of this ordinance, to excavate for, install and maintain concrete duct runs, seventy inches by twenty-four inches in size, under and across W. Taylor Street, east of S. Hermitage Avenue; a concrete duct run twenty-four inches by seventy inches in size west under and along the north side of W. Taylor Street, crossing S. Hermitage Avenue and S. Wood Street and under and along the north side of W. Taylor Street to the west line of S. Wood Street, thence north into private property, together with the necessary manholes. Also a concrete duct run twenty-four inches by seventy inches in size under and along the west side of S. Wood Street connecting with the concrete duct run in W. Taylor Street and running north to W . Polk Street, together with the necessary manholes.
