AWARD OF CERTIFICATES O F CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT (1) T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of Certified Public Accountant be awarded the following who have made applications therefor under Section 5 of the Accountancy Act of 1943 and who have presented evidence that they are holders of valid and unrevoked C.P.A. certificates issued by other states and that they qualified for these certificates by passing the regular written examinations:

ERICKSON (2) T h e Under Secretary of the Army has requested that Dr. Edgar L. Erickson, Associate Professor of History, be granted a leave of absence from the University for service to the Department of the Army in the writing of its war history. As an officer in the Army of the United States, and later as a civilian staff member of the Civil Affairs Division, Professor Erickson conducted research in the records of the World W a r I I military government experiences. Since his return to the University, the research has been completed and Professor Erickson now is needed to write that portion of the history pertaining to Germany and Austria. It is anticipated that this work can be completed during the second semester and summer of the current academic year. The Department of the Army will make satisfactory salary arrangements with Professor Erickson covering the full period of his services. I recommend that Professor Erickson be given a leave of absence without pay from March 1 to September 1, 1048.

On motion of Mrs. Holt, this leave was granted as recommended.

RETIREMENT OF PROFESSOR O. F. WEBER (3) Professor O. F . Weber of the College of Education has requested that he be retired from active service beginning May 1, 1048, under the provision in the law creating the University Retirement System of Illinois which permits retirement "on or after the attainment of age sixty-five (65) in exceptional cases and for substantial cause at the request of the Employee and upon certification of the Employer." Professor Weber will be 66 years of age on March 6, 1948, and has requested retirement because of his health. At the end of the current semester Professor Weber will have been in the service of the University 25J4 years. H e has been granted sick leave from November 1, 1047, until May 1, 1048. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Nickell, this retirement was authorized as recommended.

APPOINTMENTS O F UNIVERSITY REPRESENTATIVES ON BOARD O F MEDICAL DIRECTORS O F INSTITUTION FOR T U B E R C U L O S I S R E S E A R C H (4) A n Act of the 65th General Assembly provides for the establishment of an Institution for Tuberculosis Research in Chicago for the production, distribution, and application of the bacillus Calmette-Guerin ( B C G ) and other methods and materials for the prevention of tuberculosis and for conducting research in tuberculosis. Professional operation and all other management of the institution is vested jointly in the Municipal Sanitarium of Chicago and the University of Illinois, to be exercised through a board of five medical directors, two of whom shall be directors of the Sanitarium, two appointed by the University, and one elected by the medical directors representing the Sanitarium and the University.
