This was an emergency bill passed early in the session to make a supplementary appropriation to the University for the current biennium and was reported to the Board on February 2J. SENATE BILL 130. An Act establishing an institution for tuberculosis research for the production, distribution, and application of the bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) and other methods and materials for the prevention of tuberculosis and for conducting research in tuberculosis. The Act appropriates $32,000 for the biennium of 1047-1940 to the State Department of Public Health for operation and maintenance expenses. The Act directs the University to acquire land for the use of the Institution in the City of Chicago, erect a building, equip, maintain, and operate it. Senate Bill 662 appropriates to the State Department of Finance $21,250 for the purchase of land for the Institution and $340,000 to the State Department of Public Health for the construction of the building. Because of the distribution of responsibilities and of the funds for this enterprise, negotiation and agreement with the various departments concerned will be necessary to carry out the objectives of the legislation. The State Auditor of Public Accounts has already credited the appropriation of $32,000 for operation to the University. SENATE BILL 360. An Act appropriating $60,083,818 ($43,083,818 from State tax revenues and $17,000,000 from University income) to the University of Illinois for the biennium of 1947-1949.
