Quotations were received from ten companies. T h e lowest bids in companies meeting the minimum requirements as to financial status are: Public Liability and Property Damage: Premium Travelers Indemnity (R. C. Knight, Chicago, Agent) $2 355 36 Fire, Theft, and Collision: Travelers Fire (R. C. Knight, Chicago, Agent) 561 00 $2 916 36 T h e insurance is for one year beginning July I, 1947. The premium is chargeable to the budget appropriation of the Physical Plant Department. The Director of Purchases and the Comptroller recommend approval of this insurance. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Fornof, these contracts were awarded as recommended.

AWARD OF CONTRACTS BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (32) T h e Executive Committee reports the award of contracts as follows. T h e Secretary and the Comptroller of the Board have been authorized to execute these contracts. General Construction Work on the Physical Environment Unit. — Contract awarded to E. H . Marhoefer, Jr., Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, in the amount of $206,325. Contract award is subject to release of funds by the Governor for this project. Automatic Fire Detection System in the W. A. Noyes Laboratory of Chemistry. •— Contract awarded to the Gamewell Company, Newton Upper Falls, Massachusetts, the lowest bidder, in the amount of $16,705. Funds are available in the Physical Plant Department budget for this purchase. Fire Alarm Telegram Equipment. — Contract for equipment in the buildings at Urbana-Champaign awarded to the Gamewell Company, Newton Upper Falls, Massachusetts, in the amount of $15,535.60. Two bids were received as follows: the Autocall Company, $12,453.50; the Gamewell Company, $15,535.60. The Executive Committee awarded the contract to the Gamewell Company because it made a firm bid and guaranteed delivery of all equipment within 100 days. The Autocall Company bid included an escalator clause, and the company could not make delivery in less than 9 to 12 months. Funds are available in the Physical Plant Department budget for this purchase. General Work on Finishing Fourth Floor in Mumford Hall. — Contract for general work awarded to C. A. Petry and Sons, the lowest bidder, in the amount of $21,084. The Board of Trustees on April 24 (Minutes, page 342) made an appropriation for this improvement.

REAPPROPRIATION OF BUILDING FUNDS (33) On January 25, 1947, the Board of Trustees authorized a request to the 65th General Assembly of Illinois for the reappropriation of funds remaining unexpended as of June 30, 1947, in the appropriations made by the 64th General Assembly for the biennium of 1045-1947 for buildings and other capital improvements. On April 24, 1947, the Board authorized a redistribution of the funds to be reappropriated so as to provide sufficient funds for the total cost of each high priority project which should be completed within the 1947-1949 biennium. This was done at the request of the Director of the State Department of Finance, following conferences with the President and other University officials. T h e State Administration had adopted the policy of releasing funds for construction work only if a sufficient appropriation was available to complete a usable unit. T h e Director of Finance agreed to recommend this readjustment of funds in the State budget for 1947-1949, together with an addition of $2,000,000 for
