SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES (15) The Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures recommends assignments from the General Reserve Fund for the following purposes: 1. Generating equipment for Abbott Power Plant $ 49 220 (This is the partial cost of a new generator needed to increase the power production capacity of the Abbott Power Plant. The cost of a 7,500 K V A turbo-generator is estimated at $1,215,280. Funds for this will be included in the 1949-1951 biennial capital budget but by making a contract now delivery will be expedited by more than one year. The estimated expenditure required on this project during 1948-1949 is $49,220; the remainder will be included in the 19491951 budget.) 2. Improvement of Springfield Avenue, Urbana, adjoining University property 40 000 (This represents the University's share of the cost of repaving and widening of Springfield Avenue, Urbana, from Western Avenue to Wright Street, a distance of approximately 11 blocks.) 3. Remodeling and equipment in Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary (to establish a branch of the Research and Educational Hospitals Pharmacy) 15 000 4. Equipment for Agricultural Engineering Department 13 500 5. Equipment for Geology Department 11 000 6. Modernization and equipment in University High School 10 020 7. Tennis courts for University High School (to be constructed at north end of Illinois Field between the baseball grandstand and the north boundary fence) 8 000 8. Equipment for Business Office, Urbana and Chicago divisions 7 585 9. Equipment for Library 6 065 10. Equipment for Tabulating Machines division 5 178 11. Equipment for Agronomy Department 3 400 12. Equipment (student lockers) for College of Dentistry 3 060 $172 028 These proposed improvements have been carefully studied by the Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures. Its reports giving details of the reasons for these improvements are submitted herewith. I concur and recommend that these appropriations be made from the 1947-1948 General Reserve Fund to the extent that funds are available therein and the remainder from the General Reserve Fund for 1948-1949, and that all of these appropriations be made available until June 30, 1949.

On motion of Mr. Livingston, these appropriations were made as recommended, subject to check by President Stoddard's office and the Committee on Buildings and Grounds of the item for improving Springfield Avenue. AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE (16) Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance is needed effective expiration of present insurance, for one year, providing bodily injury and $5,000 property damage on the fleet of buses, and motor-propelled equipment owned and operated July 1, 1948, date of limits of $25/50,000 automobiles, trucks, by the University at
