n58 BOARD OF TRUSTEES [June 15 ADDITIONS TO GENERAL CONTRACT FOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING BUILDING ( n ) Additions of $2,924.60 to the general contract with the John Felmley Company for the construction of the Electrical Engineering Building are recommended for (1) changing the interior of Room 219 from a research room to a room for classes in illuminating engineering, and (2) furnishing and installing exterior lighting fixtures and railings around the main entrance platform. Funds are available in the State appropriation for the Electrical Engineering Building. I recommend that the Secretary of the Board and the Comptroller be authorized to execute these changes. On motion of Mr. Livingston, these changes in contract were authorized as recommended. ADDITION TO CONTRACT FOR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION AT ABBOTT POWER PLANT (12) T h e Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend an addition of $1,628.05 to the contract of the A. S. Schulman Electric Company for the electrical equipment installation at the Abbott Power Plant, to provide for the installation of additional pumps and rearrangement of controls. Funds are available for this addition in the State appropriation for enlargement of the Power Plant. I concur and request that the Comptroller and Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this addition to the contract. On motion of Mr. McKelvey, this addition to contract was authorized as recommended. ADDITION TO CONTRACT FOR SUBSTRUCTURE FOR ABBOTT POWER PLANT ADDITION (13) The Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend an increase of $3,064.17 in the contract with Kuhne-Simmons Company, Inc., for the substructure work in the construction of the Power Plant addition to cover revisions of plans which were made after the bids were submitted. Funds are available in the State appropriation for the Power Plant addition. I concur and recommend that the Secretary of the Board and the Comptroller be authorized to execute this change. On motion of Mr. Williamson, authority to execute contract for this change was given as recommended. APPROPRIATION AND AWARD OF AIR-CONDITIONING CONTRACT FOR RADIOCARBON LABORATORY (14) On April 10, 1948 (Minutes, page 1070), the Board of Trustees appropriated $6,000 for the purchase of equipment for the Radiocarbon Laboratory at Urbana, with the understanding that additional funds for remodeling of Room 125.2 Davenport Hall for this project would be requested when accurate estimates were available. The Physical Plant Department has secured an estimate of $16,047 for all construction costs. T h e Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures recommends such an appropriation. Bids have been received for the air-conditioning work. The Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend the award of the contract to Schroeder's of Champaign, the lowest bidder, in the amount of $8,990. I concur and recommend (1) an appropriation of $16,047 for remodeling, and (2) that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute a contract with Schroeder's.
