space. The work will consist of replacement of one partition, extension of another, and some electrical rearrangement. Upon recommendation of the Director of the Physical Plant, the Provost, and the Comptroller, and with the concurrence of the President of the University, the Executive Committee approved a nonrecurring appropriation of $4,320 for this remodeling. The research which preceded the preparation of this book was supported by a contract with the United States Army. Under the terms of the contract, the University is required to submit 150 copies of a report covering this research. Professor Quastler feels that it may be possible for him to interest a publisher in issuing this book for wider distribution. This is an extremely technical report and there will not be a widespread demand nor the possibility of a profit resulting from publication. Upon recommendation of the Director of the Control Systems Laboratory, the Chairman of the University Research Board, and the Comptroller, and with the concurrence of the President of the University, the Executive Committee authorized the waiver of the University's rights to any copyright in this instance. Contract W i t h Office of Naval Research The University has had a contract with the Office of Naval Research since March 1, 1946, for research in nuclear physics. The current contract will expire December 31, 1956. During this ten-year period a total of $4,080,636 has been supplied by the Department of the Navy for the research projects covered by the contract. The University is reimbursed for all direct expenditures plus an allowance for all indirect costs. The Office of Naval Research wishes to extend the contract for an additional year to December 31, 1957, and to provide additional funds of $477,650 for the continuation of the research projects. Upon the recommendation of the Dean of the College of Engineering, the Chairman of the University Research Board, and with the concurrence of the President of the University, the Executive Committee authorized the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board to execute this extension of the contract. Contract With State of Illinois Department of Public Welfare During the past year, Professor S. A. Kirk, Director of the Institute for Research on Exceptional Children, has conducted research programs at the Lincoln State School, Lincoln, Illinois, and at the Dixon State School, Dixon, Illinois. These programs have been financed by the State Department of Public Welfare, through assignments of funds to the Lincoln State School and to the University of Illinois. The Department of Public Welfare wishes to continue this research for an additional two-year period beginning July 1, 1955, and proposes to provide additional funds of $240,200, including an allowance of 8 per cent for indirect costs, to reimburse the University for research on ( a ) the effects of a mentally defective child on family integration, (b) trainability of brain-injured children, and (c) trainability of Mongoloid children. On recommendation of the Dean of the College of Education, the Chairman of the University Research Board, and the Comptroller, and with the concurrence of the President of the University, the Executive Committee approved the extension of this agreement and authorized the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board to execute the contract. Contract for Insulation of Ceilings of Mechanical Equipment R o o m s in Research and Educational Hospitals Addition Upon recommendation of the Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller, and with the concurrence of the President of the University, the Executive Committee awarded a contract for $2,695 to the Consumers Roofing and Insulation Works, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for insulation of ceilings in two mechanical equipment rooms in the basement of the addition to the Research and Educational
