REPORT OF AWARD OF PAINTING CONTRACT, CHICAGO DEPARTMENTS (21) Bids were taken by the Physical Plant Department on June 21 for painting, washing, and cleaning in the Research and Educational Hospitals. A check of the bids was then made to determine what could be done within funds of the outgoing biennium already appropriated for this purpose by the Board and available until September 30, with the following results: Midwest Painting Service $11 349 Walter Ingstrup Company 12 310 Franz Decorators 12 475 Because of the necessity of encumbering funds prior to June 30, the Comptroller approved the award of the contract to the lowest bidders, Midwest Painting Service.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, the action of the Comptroller in awarding this contract was.approved and confirmed.

PURCHASES AUTHORIZED (22) T h e following purchases were recommended by the Purchasing Agent and authorized by the Comptroller. Unless otherwise specified the purchases were made on the basis of lowest bids, ceiling prices, or because the items are noncompetitive. Emergency action was necessary to secure delivery in -time to meet specific needs or because prices quoted were subject to immediate acceptance. 1. Paper, 125 reams 2 2 x 3 4 , 32 lb., rag bond watermarked with the University seal, for the Office Supply Store, from the Graham Paper Company, St. Louis, at a cost of $1,203.60 f.o.b. Urbana. 2. Coal, 1,500 tons screenings, for the Physical Plant Department, from the Taylor-English Coal Company, Danville, at a cost of $4,425. 3. Four Model 5-1005 Burroughs hand operated calculating machines, for the Department of Agricultural Economics, from the Burroughs Adding Machine Company, at a cost of $1,064.88. 4. One Model D U Beckman spectrophotometer, for the Department of Horticulture, from the Central Scientific Company, Chicago, at a cost of

$1,332.12.

5. One Model B McCormick-Deering tractor; one power lift, 2-row cultivator ; one 16" power lift plow; one 5' mower; one 6' power lift tandem disk— for the Department of Agronomy, from J. G. Dohlan, Mt. Morris, at a cost of $1,264 f.o.b. delivered to farm and mechanically adjusted ready for use. 6. Laboratory apparatus and supplies, 120 items, for the General Chemical Stores, as follows: Central Scientific Co., Chicago $ 152 64 Chemical Rubber Co., Cleveland, Ohio 387 53 Chicago Apparatus Company, Chicago 343 12 Fisher Scientific Co., Pittsburgh, Pa 234 75 E. "Thermopane" glass, for the Physical Plant Department, from the Hooker Glass and Paint Manufacturing Company, Chicago, at a cost of $7,670 f.o.b. Urbana. 8. Eight items of cabinet work of standard construction, for the Physical Plant Department, from W . W. Kimball Co., Chicago, at a cost of $2,270.25. 9. A. E. M. Gretry's Collected Works (Breitkopf & H a r t e l ) , 45 vols., for the University Library, from Broude Bros., New York, at a cost of $1,000. 10. Refinishing of furniture in the Busey and Evans Residence Halls, by Marshall Field and Company, Chicago, at a cost of $S,ooo plus transportation. 11.
