STAFFORD, Professor of Physical Education for Men, for the second semester of 1944-1045, or from March 1 through August 31, 1045, for service with the United States Navy in its rehabilitation program. This is an extension of leave approved by the Board in September for the first semester of the current year. HARRY J. FULLER, Associate Professor of Botany, second semester, or from March 1 through August 31, 1045, to serve as Rubber Specialist in South America for the United States Government. This is an extension of a leave previously granted Professor Fuller for the same purpose for an indefinite period. Professor Fuller returned to the University expecting to be in University service for the second semester, but the Government has asked for his return. T. E. P H I P P S , Professor of Physical Chemistry, February 1 through June 30, 1045, for continuation of the research work he has been doing at the University of Chicago for the Government on military problems. J. E. HULETT, JR., Assistant Professor of Sociology, February 1 through August 31, 1945, for service in the Office of Strategic Services. This is an extension of leave previously approved by the Board for the first semester of the current academic year. This additional leave has been requested by the Government. ISAAC SCHOUR, Professor of Histology and Head of the Department (College of Dentistry), six months' leave with full pay for service as dental investigator and stomatologist for the Italian Medical Nutrition Mission. H e has been invited to participate in a Medical Nutrition Survey which will be conducted in Italy, and the findings and recommendations will be submitted to Government authorities. This Survey is sponsored by the United Nations Relief Administration in cooperation with the Unitarian Service Committee and the Congregational-Christian Service Committee. T h e date of departure of the Mission has not been determined, so that the period of Doctor Schour's leave is subject to further approval by the President of the University. Other members of the faculty of the College of Dentistry will do Doctor Schour's work without additional expense to the University.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, these leaves were granted as recommended.

STATUS OF GEORGE P. TUTTLE, REGISTRAR (2) Since April 1, 1944, Mr. George P . Tuttle, Registrar, has been serving as Director of the American Council on Education Cooperative Study of Training and Experience in the Armed Services. This study is the preparation of a manual, "Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experience in the Armed Forces," for evaluating training received in the military service for secondary school and college credit. H e was released for this service by authority of the Board of Trustees for three-quarters time, without pay, first from April 1 through August 31, and later his partial leave of absence was extended through December 31, 1944. This work has not been completed and it has developed intd a larger project than was originally contemplated. T h e American Council on Education desires the staff engaged in this work to make a study of the post-hostilities educational programs of the A r m y and Navy and the educational program of the United States Merchant Marine. T h e Army and Navy and Merchant Marine are urging that this be done. The Council is, therefore, requesting Mr. Tuttle's services, on the same basis as heretofore, until September I, 1945. I recommend: 1. That Mr. Tuttle be given additional leave of absence for three-quarters time, without pay, from January I through August 31, 1945. 2. That a change in status of Dr. J. Thomas Hastings, Technical Director of the High School Testing Bureau and Associate in Education and Personnel, to one-quarter time from January I through August 31, 1945, to release him for
