On motion of Mr. Karraker, the action of the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board in executing these contracts was approved and confirmed.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (26) T h e Comptroller recommends that the following purchases submitted by the Purchasing Agent be authorized: 1. 42 thin yearling steers of good grade, for the Animal Husbandry Department, from the Chicago Producers Commission Association, at a total cost of approximately $3,000 to- $3,500. These are non-competitive, as the price will be determined by the market. T h e Chicago Producers Commission Association will be instructed by the Department of Animal Husbandry with respect to the selection of suitable animals. 2. 22 good to choice yearling steers and 22 good to choice steer calves, for the Animal Husbandry Department, from the St. Louis Producers Commission Association, at a total cost of approximately $3,000 to $3,500. These are noncompetitive, as the price will be determined by the market. T h e St. Louis Producers Commission Association will be instructed by the Department of Animal Husbandry with respect to the selection of suitable animals. 3. 67 % h.p. Baldor dental lathes, type 152Q, two speed, carrying handle mounted on top of the motor, each motor to have one stone and one taper chuck; 6 stone chucks, same as above; 12 taper chucks, same as above. These supplies are requested by the Student Supply Store (Chicago Colleges) for student course outfits to be issued to A.S.T.P., N.C.T.P., and civilian students. It is recommended that the order be placed with the Central Dental Manufacturing Company, 640 South Third Street, Louisville, Kentucky, at a total cost of $1,919.25. This firm was the lowest bidder. 4. 45 ivorine dentoforms (Catalogue No. L-560-ED) ; 70 stone model sets, dentoform mold # r20. These items are requested by the Student Supply Store (Chicago Colleges) for student course outfits to be issued to A.S.T.P., N.C.T.P., and civilian students. It is recommended that the order be placed with the Columbia Dentoform Company, the manufacturer, at a total price of $1,066.50. These are non-competitive items and are available only on direct negotiation with the manufacturer. This is therefore the only firm able to fulfill our specifications. 5. 70 semi-stainless Doriot Contra Angles, " U " type; 60 Doriot cord straight handpieces, # 4 . These items are requested by the Student Supply Store (Chicago Colleges) for student course outfits to be issued to A.S.T.P., N.C.T.P., and civilian students. It is recommended that the order be placed with the Midwest Dental Manufacturing Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, at a total price of $1,272. 6. Three items of precious metals, requested by the Student Supply Store (Chicago Colleges) for student course outfits to be issued to A.S.T.P., N.C.T.P., and civilian students, from H . M. Dugan, the lowest bidder, at a total price of $1,365.10. 7. 8,500 tons, 10 per cent more or less, one and one-quarter-inch, Illinois screenings, requested by the Chicago Physical Plant Department, from the Crerar Clinch Coal Company, the lowest bidder, at a total price of $50,575.00 (on the basis of $5.95 a tone delivered). This coal is to be delivered as required in accordance with specifications. T h e quotation of this company represents the greatest number of British Thermal units per one cent, computed in accordance with the formula contained in the invitation to bid. This coal is produced by the Peabody Coal Company's Mine No. 14 at Clinch, Illinois, located in Perry County. 8. One combination Kjeldahl distilling and digesting apparatus, requested by the Agronomy Department, from the Precision Scientific Company, the only bidder on the 30-unit apparatus, at their price of $1,600 (f.o.b. U r b a n a ) . 9. 103 items for dental student course outfits, requested by the Student Supply Store (Chicago Colleges), to be issued to A.S.T.P., N.C.T.P., and civilian dental students. It is recommended that the order be placed with the
