RESOLUTION FROM AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS REQUESTING SALARY INCREASES TO MEET INCREASED LIVING COSTS (16) T h e University of Illinois Chapter of the American Association of University Professors has sent me the following letter and resolutions. June 13, 1946

To THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY:

On June 4th a meeting of the local chapter of the American Association of University Professors was held, at which the enclosed resolution was unanimously adopted. This petition has been circulated throughout the University for the signatures of the academic staff. A committee, consisting of the officers of the association, was directed to present this resolution to you for transmittal to the University Council and to the Board of Trustees at their next meeting. T h e A.A.U.P., in sponsoring this resolution, has acted as an organizing agent for the faculty as a whole at the request of many members of the faculty who are not affiliated with the A.A.U.P. It is our hope that you will present this resolution to the University Council at an early date and to the Board of Trustees at the next meeting which we understand will take place on J u n e 15th. According to instructions contained in the last paragraph of this resolution, the committee has sent copies of the resolution to Deans and Directors of Colleges and Schools and to H e a d s and Chairmen of Departments. The resolution has been signed by 764 members of the University Staff up to date, but further signatures are expected as soon as contacts can be made. C O M M I T T E E O F T H E A.A.U.P.
