tion for Men effective September I, 1946, returning to the prewar requirement of two years with certain other modifications. T h e complete program recommended by the University Senate is as follows:

POST-WAR PROGRAM IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION FOR M E N

1. All students, except as hereinafter indicated, are required to secure four semesters of credit in physical education. All General Courses in Physical Education for Men will meet 3 times (for 1 h o u r ) a week or 2 times (for 2 h o u r s ) a week. All General Courses in Physical Education for Men will carry one hour of credit. 2. All entering students are required to take a health examination given by the Department of Health Service before registration. T h e Department of Health Service, acting on the findings of this examination, is authorized to ( a ) permanently excuse students from physical education; (b) temporarily excuse students from physical education; (c) prohibit students from registering in specified courses; ( d ) assign students to registration in specified courses. T h e Department of Health Service is also authorized to examine any students at any time after the original health examination and change the student's status as findings indicate. 3. All men entering as students, excepting those who are permanently or temporarily excused from physical education or assigned to the course " P r e scribed Exercise," are required to take a Motor Fitness Test before registration. These tests are to be given by the Department of Physical Education for Men. Students who fail to pass the Motor Fitness Test are required to take the course "Basic Physical Fitness." Students who pass the Motor Fitness Test will register in other General Courses in Physical Education. 4. All students, excepting those enrolled in "Prescribed Exercise" and "Basic Physical Fitness" will be permitted to take proficiency examinations in physical education courses. Students who pass proficiency examinations with a grade of "C" or better will be given course credit. Credit received in passing proficiency examinations will count toward meeting the physical education graduation requirement. Proficiency examinations will be offered each semester in all General Physical Education courses, excepting "Prescribed Exercise," "Basic Physical Fitness," and "Beginning Swimming." 5. Students who pass the course "Basic Physical Fitness" will register in other General Courses. Students who fail to pass the course "Prescribed E x e r cise" will re-register in the same course. Students who fail to pass the course "Basic Physical Fitness" or the Motor Fitness Test will re-register in "Basic Physical Fitness." Students who fail to pass one of the General Courses may repeat the course or take some other course. 6. Toward the end of each semester each instructor will confer with each student in his classes regarding the student's next course. T h e student's needs will constitute the primary basis of selection. Some consideration will also be given to providing each student with diversified courses. 7. Students who enter the University with less than 56 semester hours of credit will be required to secure four semesters of credit in physical education, including the amount transferred. Students who enter with 56 or more semester hours of credit are exempt from the physical education requirements. O n m o t i o n of D r .
