The Board of Trustees on February 24, 1945, authorized a leave of absence for Professor Baldwin under these same terms and conditions for the academic year 1945-1946, but because of war conditions in Europe this leave had to be cancelled. DONALD R. T A F T , Professor of Sociology, first semester, 1946-1947. HARLEY J. V A N CLEAVE, Professor of Zoology, second semester, 1946-1947. ELMER J. WORKING, Professor and Chief in Agricultural Economics, second semester, 1946-1947. This leave has already been authorized by the Board of Trustees (Minutes, January 31, 1946, pages 996-997). 1947-1948 or 1946-1947 J O H N T. BUCHHOLZ, Professor of Botany, first semester, 1947-1948. Approval of this request is being recommended a year ahead of the customary time because the program of research contemplated involves travel to and living in New Caledonia, and Professor Buchholz needs to make plans for this well in advance. It is further recommended that if he can make arrangements to make this trip in 1946-1947, leave be granted for the first semester.

On motion of Mr. Nickell, these leaves were granted as recommended.

RELEASE OF F U N D S FROM STATE-WIDE PUBLIC WORKS PROJECTS APPROPRIATION (31) A report that Governor Dwight H . Green has authorized the release of funds from the appropriation made to the University of Illinois by the 64th General Assembly in the "Act making appropriations for a State-wide system of public works projects, including all ordinary and contingent expenses relating thereto," as follows: Release No. 159.-—"For construction of Electrical Engineering Building and Equipment, $875,000." Amount released, $125,000. This is to be used "for the purchase of equipment in connection with the construction of the Electrical Engineering Building a t Urbana-Champaign."

On motion of Mr. Davis, this fund was appropriated for the purchase of equipment as proposed, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Davis, Mr. Fornof, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McKelvey, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Nickell; no, none; absent, Mr. Green, Dr. Luken, Mr. McLaughlin, Mr. Williamson.
