4. National Apple Institute, cooperative investigation by the Agricultural Experiment Station (Department of H o m e Economics) to study the relation of indigestible residue of common foods to dental caries. This agreement is drawn for a period of two months beginning July 15, 1940, and the Institute has sent the University $500 to cover the expenses of the study. 5. Monsanto Chemical Company, St. Louis, Missouri, extension of investigation of insecticides by the Agricultural Experiment Station and the State Natural History Survey. This extends the agreement to cover the fiscal year 1940-1941, and the Company has agreed to contribute an additional $4,500, in semi-annual payments, to cover the expenses of the work. 6. U. S. Public Roads Administration, investigation of fatigue strength of welded joints for structural steel members, by the Engineering Experiment Station. This agreement is drawn for a period of one year from July 1, 1940, and the Administration agrees to contribute up to $3,500 (or not to exceed 50 per cent of the total costs of this project if they are less than $7,000) toward the expenses of this investigation. T h e balance of the cost of this project will come from funds contributed by other agencies interested in this investigation. 7. A. E. Staley Manufacturing Company, Decatur, a comparative study of the nutritive value for poultry of soybean oil meals prepared by different commercial processes, by the Agricultural Experiment Station. T h e agreement is drawn for a period of one year beginning September i, 1940, with provision for its extension, and the Company has agreed to contribute $1,000 for the expenses of this study. 8. Illinois Clay Products Company, investigation of the constitution and bonding and related properties for metallurgical use of clays, by the Engineering Experiment Station and the State Geological Survey. T h e agreement is drawn for a period of one year beginning September 1, 1940, with provisions for its extension, and the Company agrees to pay the University $3,700 a year to cover the expenses of this work. 9. National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, investigation of effect of range of stress and of special notches on the fatigue properties of aluminum alloys suitable for airplane propellers, by the Engineering Experiment Station. This agreement covers the personal services involved in this investigation; the Hamilton Standard Propellers Company has offered to supply all specimens of aluminum alloys to be used; the N.A.C.A. agrees to make available $2,500 for the expenses of this investigation. These agreements conform to the University Statutes and policies governing such cooperating research.

On motion of Mrs. Plumb, these agreements were approved.

PURCHASE RECOMMENDED (10) A recommendation that the following purchase be authorized: 1. 400 cases (car load) of bleached paper towels for the Physical Plant stock, from the Decatur Paper House, the lowest bidder, at a cost of $1,420 f.o.b. delivered.

On motion of Mrs. Plumb, this purchase was authorized.

PURCHASES AUTHORIZED (11) A report of the following purchases authorized by the President of the University in accordance with the University Statutes: 1. China for the Illini Union Building Cafeteria and Fountain Room and First Floor Dining Room, from the Steames Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder (for the china for the Cafeteria and Fountain R o o m ) , at a price of $1,593-33, and f rom E. A. Hinrichs & Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder (for the china for the First Floor Dining R o o m ) , at a price of $334.18. 2. China for Illini Union Building Third Floor Dining Room, from E. A. Hinrichs & Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,452.17.

On motion of Mrs. Plumb, this action was confirmed.
