On motion of Mr. Karraker, these leaves were granted as recommended.

C O N T I N U A T I O N OF DR. GEORGE DE TARNOWSKY IN ACTIVE SERVICE

(5) Dr. George de Tarnowsky, Professor of Surgery on the Clinical Faculty of the College of Medicine, without salary, has reached the age of 68. At his request and on recommendation of the Head of the Department and the Dean of the College, I recommend that he be continued in active service on the Clinical Faculty for one year from September 1, 1941.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, this recommendation was approved.

RETIREMENT OF G E O R G E V A U G H N (6) Mr. George Vaughn, Laborer in the Department of Animal Husbandry, requests that he be retired as of September I, 1941, under the provision of the former system of retirements (which, however, is applicable to all individuals retiring on September I, 1941) that in exceptional cases and for substantial cause retirement may be permitted at any time after a staff member reaches 65 years of age. Mr. Vaughn is requesting retirement on account of his health. He is 66 years old and has been in the service of the University for 15 years. The retiring allowance payable is $441 a year. O n motion of M r . Fornof, this recommendation was approved.

REAPPROPRIATION FOR CYCLOTRON H O U S I N G

(7) The Director of the Physical Plant Department recommends the reappropriation of the $350 unexpended balance in funds assigned for the housing of the cyclotron, which lapsed June 30, 1941. O n motion of M r . Jensen, this reappropriation was made as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, M r . A d a m s , M r . Cleary, M r . Davis, Mr. Fornof, M r s . Grigsby, M r . Jensen, M r . K a r r a k e r , M r . Livingston, Dr. Meyer, Mr. W i e l a n d ; no, n o n e ; absent, M r . Green.

APPROPRIATION FOR B R O N Z E TABLETS FOR ALTGELD HALL

(8) The Director of the Physical Plant Department reports that the two bronze tablets for Altgeld Hall, the wording of which was approved by the Board of Trustees on June 24, 1941 (Minutes, page 332), will cost $250 when installed. An appropriation of this amount from the General Reserve Fund is requested. O n motion of M r . A d a m s , this appropriation was made as requested, by the following vote: Aye, M r . SALE OF OLD BUILDINGS AT 1 2 0 6 WEST GREEN STREET. URBANA

(9) During the last fiscal year the University purchased the property at 1206 West Green Street, Urbana, on which there is an old residence with a commercial shack in the front yard, both in a bad state of repair. The Board of Trustees at a previous meeting authorized the sale of these buildings to the highest bidder. The following bids were received: A. J. Hartle—$135; Ray Wascher—$106. The Executive Committee has authorized the sale of these old buildings to A. J. Hartle at his price of $135.
