PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (10) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. Twenty feeder steers, for the Department of Animal Husbandry, from the Chicago Producers Commission Association, at a price of approximately $l,68o. 2. Forty-five choice grade steer calves and seventeen choice yearling feeder steers, for the Department of Animal Husbandry, from the Producers Live Stock Commission Association, National Stock Yards, at a cost of approximately $4,075-

On motion of Dr. Meyer, these purchases were authorized as recommended.

PURCHASES AUTHORIZED (11) A report of the following purchases authorized by the President of the University in accordance with the University Statutes: 1. Two carloads of cypress and birch lumber, for the Physical Plant Department, from the W m . C. Schreiber Lumber Company, Chicago, the low bidder, at a cost of approximately $3,810 f.o.b. Urbana. 2. Band instruments and cases, from C. G. Conn, Ltd., Elkhart, Indiana, at a price of $1,720.80 f.o.b. Elkhart. 3. P y r e x laboratory glassware, 629 cases, from E. H. Sargent and Company, Chicago, at a price of approximately $8,600 f.o.b. Urbana. 4. Gasoline, approximately 65,000 gallons, to be delivered in 8,000-gallon cars as required by the Physical Plant Department, from the Shell Oil Company, at a price of 11.26 cents a gallon guaranteed until March, 1042. The total amount of money involved is approximately $7,319. 5. Carpet runners for main lounge in the Illini Union Building at Urbana, to match present rugs—5 runners 6' x 19/4" and 1 runner 6' x 35'6"—from F. K. Robeson, Champaign (the firm which supplied the present rugs in the main lounge) at a price of $1,414.80 installed.

On motion of Mr. Davis, this action was approved and confirmed.

COLLEGE OF MEDICINE CLINICAL FACULTY 1 9 4 1 - 1 9 4 2 (12) A recommendation that the following appointments be made in the College of Medicine for the academic year beginning September I, 1941, without salary, and that the President of the University be authorized to make such additional appointments and other changes in this list as may be necessary. T h e list is submitted in two p a r t s : Section I comprises the regular clinical faculty of the College of Medicine; Section II includes appointments from the clinical faculty of Rush Medical College and the staff of the Presbyterian Hospital of Chicago. T h e agreement entered into by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois and the Board of Managers of the Presbyterian Hospital (Minutes of July 22, 1941, page 402) provides that the University shall appoint to its clinical faculty the members of the staff of the Presbyterian Hospital of Chicago and the members of the faculty of Rush Medical College. There is also submitted herewith certain collateral information: (1) a list of new appointments in Section I (that is, individuals who were not on the clinical faculty of 1940-1941) ; (2) a list of promotions in rank in Section I ; and (3) a summary by departments of the number of appointments in each section with comparable figures for last year in the case of Section I. T h e faculty of Rush Medical College has included approximately 310 individuals. As the summary shows, the recommendations for appointments from this group to the clinical faculty of the College of Medicine total 235 names (with a few more recommendations pending) and 3 in Oral Surgery in the College of Dentistry (page 619). In these appointments the academic titles in most cases include the name "Rush" parenthetically after the rank, with the exception of the following cases where the name "Rush" appears before the rank as a mark of special recognition of distinction and administrative ability:
