work entering into the construction of Gregory Hall, First Addition to McKinley Hospital, and the Fifth Addition to the Library, and Whereas, it now appears that these persons have completed the work required under their contracts; Now, therefore, be it resolved, by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois: That the work called for under said contracts is completed and is hereby approved; provided, however, that the adoption of this resolution is not intended and shall not be construed to relieve or acquit the contractors of their obligations as expressed in their contracts to remedy such defects, if any, in material or workmanship as may appear within the periods stated in said contracts, or to make good and perform fully any other responsibility or obligation which, in accordance with the true intent and meaning of their contracts, they should discharge or perform notwithstanding the formal acceptance of the work as completed.

On motion of Mr. Karraker, this resolution was adopted by unanimous vote of record.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED AND AUTHORIZED (4) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. Galvanized pipe for Physical Plant stock from the Crane Company, T e r r e Haute, Indiana, the lowest bidder, at a cost of $1,031.89 f.o.b. Urbana. 2. 150 yearling ewes or wethers for the Department of Animal Husbandry at a price of approximately $1,500. This purchase requires inspection of several lots of animals before a selection can be made, and the price will depend on the market at the time of purchase. It is recommended that the Department of Animal Husbandry be authorized to inspect and select suitable animals and arrange for their purchase. 3. Two bookkeeping machines for the Business Office from the Underwood, Elliott, Fisher Company, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,718.81. A recommendation for a special appropriation for this equipment is pending, and the placing of the order is contingent on the appropriation being made. That the action of the President in authorizing the following purchases as emergencies, in accordance with the University Statutes, be confirmed: 1. Granite stair treads for entrance to Noyes Chemical Laboratory, from the Illinois Cut Stone Company, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,547 delivered to the site. 2. 400 dozen bath towels, for the Department of Physical Education for Men, from Carson, Pirie, Scott, and Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, at a total cost of $1,068.96 f.o.b. Urbana. 3. 180 dozen sheets and 90 dozen pillow cases for the Men's Residence Hall from Carson, Pirie, Scott, and Company, the lowest bidder, at a total cost of $2,189.70 f.o.b. Urbana. 4. One four-unit combine milking machine with accessories, for installation in milking parlor at Round Dairy Barn, from the DeLaval Separator Company at their price of $2,052.75 f.o.b. Poughkeepsie, New York. Members of the Dairy Husbandry staff investigated types of equipment available and found only one product, that of the DeLaval Separator Company, suitable for their use.

On motion of Mr. Karraker, these purchases were authorized and the action of the President of the University was confirmed as requested.
