PROPERTY O N GREEN STREET IN URBANA (17) T h e T u r n e r property at 1206 West Green Street, Urbana, has been offered for sale to the University at a price of $10,000, of which $1,000 shall be payable immediately and the balance on or before July I, 1941, the owner to retain possession until that date and the University to assume all taxes for 1940 and due in 1941. T h e r e is a commercial structure in front of the house, which has been leased until September 1, 1941, so that the sale is necessarily subject to this lease. If this property is not sold, the owners plan to improve it by removing the old residence and constructing on the lot an apartment building. While the University has no immediate need for the property, it is part of the area which will be needed eventually for the orderly development of the plant of the College of Engineering. T h e Transportation, Ceramics, and the Locomotive Laboratory buildings are in this block. In fact, all the area from W r i g h t Street on the west to Goodwin Avenue on the east, and from Green Street north to Springfield Avenue should eventually be available for the College of Engineering and the Physical Plant Department. In view of these factors, it is desirable that the University acquire this property, if possible, in the interest of future development, and T so recommend.
