ARTHUR L A VELLE,_ Associate Professor of Anatomy, College of Medicine, six months beginning October 1, 1961, full pay; to study and work on the problem of an immunochemical approach to the development of nerve cells. SAMUEL R. M. REYNOLDS, Professor of Anatomy and H e a d of the Department, College of Medicine, six months beginning August I, 1962, full pay; for research and observation in the Women's National Hospital, University of New Zealand; the -work will be done in collaboration with a former colleague who is now Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of the Women's National Hospital, to bring together in a single line of work experiences gained in two independent lines of basic research over a period of twenty years in animal experimentation and observation of human patients. CEDRIC M. SMITH, Associate Professor of Pharmacology, College of Medicine, full year, one-half pay; to increase proficiency in research and teaching of neuropharmacology to medical and graduate students by intensive research training in neurological mechanisms of drug action.

On motion of Mr. Hughes, these leaves were granted as recommended.

AMENDMENT O F UNIVERSITY REGULATIONS FOR ADMINISTRATION OF ACCOUNTANCY LAW (6) Under the Illinois Accountancy Law regulating the practice of public accounting, the University has the responsibility of determining by examination and otherwise the qualifications of applicants for the certificate of Certified Public Accountant, and of issuing such certificates. T h e University is empowered to adopt regulations for the administration of the examinations, said regulations being subject to approval by the Board of Trustees. The Committee on Accountancy 1 recommends that the provision in Section 16 which relates to " T h e Study of Accounting and Related Subjects" and proof of preliminary education required for admission to the Illinois Certified Public Accountant examinations be amended to read: Official credentials indicating the successful completion of the required number of semester hours of residence or correspondence study in the subjects specified in the Act in institutions acceptable to the University. Credentials for study in residence or correspondence schools which specialize in business training are acceptable up to thirty semester hours in the subjects of accounting, auditing, economics, business law, and finance, provided satisfactory proof is presented that at least SO per cent of their courses in accounting are taught by certified public accountants. Credit for study in accounting, auditing, economics, business law, and finance in excess of thirty semester hours arid credit for Study in other or additional subjects will be allowed: (1) if such study has been completed at regularly accredited institutions of higher learning, or (2) if such study has been completed in residence or correspondence schools which specialize in business training provided satisfactory proof is presented that at least SO per cent of their courses in accounting are taught by certified public accountants and, provided further, that the semester hours of study in these subjects is equivalent to comparable courses offered by accredited institutions of higher learning. Accredited institutions of higher learning are those approved by a recognized regional accrediting agency such as the North Central Association or by an accrediting agency affiliated with the National Commission on Accrediting. (The present portion of Section 16 which is being amended reads: ("Official credentials indicating the successful completion of the required number of semester h o u r s of residence or correspondence study in the specified subjects in institutions acceptable to the University. Credentials of schools which specialize in business training a r e acceptable provided ' The University's responsibilities, under the law, ate administered by a Committee on Accountancy, appointed by the Board of Trustees on recommendation of the President of the university, and a Board of Examiners in Accountancy, three in number, which gives the examinations. The present members of the Committee are Professor Horace M. Gray, Chairman, Dean Charles W. Sanford, Mr. Edward J. Smith, and Professor J. Nelson YouOff. Tie monb«rs of the Board of Examiners are Mr. Alien C. Howard, Mr. William Deeming, and Mr. William Emery.
