satisfactory proof is presented that at least SO per cent of their courses in accounting are taught by certified public accountants.") I concur and recommend that this change become effective for all candidates for the Certified Public Accountant examinations in November, 1961, and thereafter. O n motion of M r , Clement, the recommended change in the regulations was approved.

APPROPRIATION BY ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

(7) The Board of Directors of the Athletic Association has approved an appropriation of $26,347 to supplement the budgeted item for insurance and retirement. Confirmation of this action is requested. O n motion of Mr. Swain, this action was confirmed.

N O N R E C U R R I N G APPROPRIATION

(8) The Vice-President and Comptroller and the Vice-President and Provost recommend an appropriation of $3,000 from the University General Reserve for replacement of the Varitype equipment in the Stenographic Service.

I concur.

CONTRACT FOR LANDSCAPING O F PEABODY DRIVE RESIDENCE HALLS AREA

(9) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $19,259.85 to Twin City Nursery and Landscape Service, Inc., Urbana, the lowest bidder, for landscaping of the area of the Peabody Drive Residence Halls. Funds are available in the construction account for these residence halls which were financed through a revenue bond issue. I concur. O n motion of M r s . W a t k i n s , this contract was awarded by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Dilliard, M r . Harewood, Mr. H u g h e s , Mr, Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, M r s . COMMONWEALTH F U N D GRANT FOR STUDY OF MEDICAL EDUCATION

(10) The Commonwealth Fund has made a supplementary grant of $128,000 to the University of Illinois College of Medicine for an additional two years beginning September 1, 1961, for the study and evaluation of the program in medical education. This is in addition to a grant of $112,000 made in 1958 for the support of a two-year pilot program of educational research by the College of Medicine. I have accepted this supplementary grant and am pleased to report it for the record. T h i s report was received for record.
