years, beginning September 1, 1961, the salary of this position to be determined when the budget for 1961-62 is submitted to the Board for approval. The nomination of Professor Keith has been made after consultation with the Executive Committee of the Department and of the College and has the endorsement of the Vice-President and Provost and of the Dean of the Graduate College. I recommend approval. O n motion of M r . Swain, this appointment was approved.

BUDGETS FOR 19 61 SUMMER SESSIONS A N D FACULTY APPOINTMENTS

(3) Submitted herewith are the budgets and appointments to the faculty for the 1961 summer sessions. This year there will be two summer sessions and two budgets. The Board of Trustees has authorized the offering of a twelve-week term, to assess the potential demands for extended summer programs, in addition to the traditional eight-week summer session. The eight-week summer session at Urbana-Champaign will begin June 1 9 and end August 12; at the Chicago Undergraduate Division this session wilt begin June 23 and conclude August 18, The twelve-week summer term at UrbanaChampaign will extend from June 24 to September 9, and at the Chicago Undergraduate Division from June 23 to September 8. In the College of Pharmacy, there will be two six-week terms, June 19 to July 29, and July 31 ID September 9. The eight-week summer session budget totals $858,776 plus a reserve of $60,173 for Urbana-Champaign; $11,357 for the Chicago Professional Colleges; and $100,899 plus a reserve of $14,101 for the Chicago Undergraduate Division. The twelve-week summer term budget totals $112,222 plus a reserve of $22,77s for the Urbana-Champaign campus; and $40,711 plus a reserve of $4,289 for the Chicago Undergraduate Division. Salaries of members of the University faculty recommended for summer session appointments are computed on the basis of the standard formulae: twoninths of the salary of the academic year for eight weeks of service, and threeninths of the salary of the academic year for twelve weeks of service, with proportionate amounts for shorter periods or for part-time service. The appointments being recommended include a number of visiting lecturers from other colleges and universities at the salaries indicated. I recommend that the appointments to the summer session staff be approved as submitted, and that the President of the University be authorized to accept resignations and make such changes and adjustments and additional appointments as are necessary in accordance with the needs of the University within tlif allocations of funds indicated. O n motion of Mr. Hughes, these appointments and the summer session budget were approved, and the President was given authority as recommended. This action was taken by the following vote: Ajt.
