As indicated in this report, alternate bids were taken to secure a breakdown of the bidding so that contracts could be awarded in terms of available funds. Two Alternates (A and B), totaling $81,645, provide for a second group of fixed equipment and a final group of fixed equipment, respectively. A third (Alternate C) provides for omission of the air conditioning system, totaling $88,835, The contractors who are being recommended have agreed that the work covered by these alternates may be restored to the project at any time prior to July 31, 1961, since a decision on them is not essential until that date. It is therefore recommended that authority be given at this time to restore the omitted items to the project if au additional $170,000 is made available from federal funds or other sources prior to July 31, 1961, Negotiations are now under way for an additional federal grant to match the $170,000 University appropriation^ I concur in these recommendations.

On motion of Mr. Swain, these contracts were awarded, as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr, Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Kerner.
