CONTRACT FOR REMODELING I N FIRST UNIT O F T H E DENTISTRY-MEDICINE-PHARMACY BUILDING

(20) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend award of •a contract for $4,184 to the Gardner Construction Company, Oak Park, Illinois, the lowest bidder, for remodeling in the first unit of the Dentist ry - Medic in e-Pharmacy B uilding. This will consist of general contract work, including wrecking, plaster patching, new floor covering, painting, decorating, and connection of laboratory furniture, in remodeling a room for the Department of Biological Chemistry for use in graduate teaching and research. This will be paid for partly from University funds and partly from matching funds received from the National Science Foundation.

I concur.

CONTRACT FOR INSTALLATIONS OF AIR CONDITIONING IN NEW PHYSICS BUILDING

(21) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $176,320 to F. R. Inskip and Company, Champaign, the lowest bidder, for air-conditioning installations and incidental work in the new Physics Building. The Physics Building is being constructed in stages, the first stage having been substantially completed and has been in service since October, 1959. The contract for air conditioning now recommended is on a base bid of $133,220 for installations in the present building with an alternate bid of $43,100 fot the provision of a second compressor in the basement mechanical equipment room which will be required for air conditioning the second stage of construction of tlit building. Installation of the second is desirable at this time because it is necessary to provide a major opening in the basement wall and major excavation adjacent thereto in order to install either one or two compressors. Installing both now will result in a saving of money and avoid reconstruction of the lawn and landscaping in front of the building. Funds are available in the state capital appropriations to the University lor 1959-61. Attached is a report from the Physical Plant Department on this projeci including a schedule of all bids received. I concur.
