Ventilating— Montefusco Heating and Sheet Metal Company, Peoria Base bid , $ 42 228 Less deductive alternate — 1 263 Net contract $40 965 The deductive alternates, totaling $34,213, will defer completion of air-conditioning installations in the building by omitting the items of cooling equipment and related work. Water Main Extension — Cross Construction, Inc., Urbana $11 346 Extension of Steam Service Lines — Robert Gordon, Inc., Chicago 16 768 Extension of Electric Service —Square Deal Electrical Contracting, Inc., LaPorte, Indiana 33 156 Elevator — Due to insufficient funds, it is recommended that the complete elevator installation be omitted at this time and that all three bids received an this phase of the work be rejected. To keep the construction costs within the limits of funds available, it is recommended that the following installations and work also be deferred or omitted: Installation of blinds on the north and south sides of the building; Installation of library stacks and cubicles and the purchase of all movable equipment; Reduction of landscaping to a minimum, perhaps to construction of lawns only; Interior painting and inslallation of asphalt tile floor surfacing, total $10,000; to be covered by a deductive change order issued concurrently with the execution of the general contract. Submitted herewith are three supporting memoranda from the Physical Plant Department, including lists of bids received on the several phases of the work, and copies are being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record. The awards of the contracts and change orders are recommended, subject to availability of funds from the following sources: State capital appropriations for 1959-61 for matching funds $350 000 State capital appropriations for utilities extensions. 80 000 Gifts from labor and industrial organizations, approximately 157 O P O Total $587 O f Ol I concur in these recommendations.

CONTRACT FOR CAMPUS BUS SERVICE

(11) In the development of long-range campus plans for the Urbana-Champaign campus, it has become evident that a system of public transportation service will be essential if the projected campus population for 1969, an enrollment of over 30,000 students, is to be handled satisfactorily. Recently, representatives (students) of the Men's Residence Halls called on officials of the Champaign-Urbana City Lines, Inc., to inquire about the possibility of inaugurating a campus bus service, and the company expressed an interest in establishing a special campus route. In view of student interest, the unexpected increase in student enrollment this fall, and the eventual need of a public transportation service, discussions were initiated by University officials with the Champaign-Urbana City Lines, Inc., to determine the basis on which a campus bus service could be established. The company offered to provide the service for an experimental period on a contract basis with the University. On recommendation of the Director of Housing, the Director of the Physical Plant, and the Vice-President and Comptroller, and with the concurrence of the President of the University, the Executive Committee of the Board has author-
