APPROPRIATION A N D GRANT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF ELECTRON MICROSCOPE LABORATORY

(7) The National Science Foundation has made a grant of $86,600 to the University for construction of an Electron Microscope Laboratory upon condition that the funds be matched from non-federal sources to the extent of at least 50 per cent of the direct costs of the project. This grant has been accepted on behalf of the Board of Trustees and confirmation of this action is requested. I also recommend an appropriation of $86,600 of matching funds for this project, $27,500 to be provided from funds budgeted for the Graduate College and $59,100 from the General Reserve. Department of Animal Science, repair of fences and weighing facilities at the Beef Cattle Barn 2 500 00 3. Department of Dairy Science, remodeling in Round Dairy Barn for physiology laboratory 26 600 00 Total $33 100 00 I concur. CONTRACTS A N D ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION FOR ADDITIONS T O PHYSICS RESEARCH LABORATORY

(9) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend awards of contracts as follows for the construction of an addition to the Hydrogen Liquefier Building, a separate building recently constructed in the area south of the Physics Research Laboratory, and an addition to the Physics Research Laboratory itself to extend the twenty-two million electron volt laboratory operations on the main floor of the building. The two are being treated as one project arid the awards are to the lowest, qualified bidders: General — A. F. Krall Construction Company, Inc., Decatur $55 984 Electrical — Knight Electric Company, Inc., Evansville, Indiana.... 6 670 Plumbing — Champaign Plumbing and Heating Company, Champaign.. 2 080 Heating—Champaign Plumbing and Heating Company, Champaign 6 295 Ventilating— Industrial Roofing Company, Mattoon 2 961 The total cost of the project is $81,650, of which $27,300 is available in a National Science Foundation grant and $28,200 was appropriated by the Board on ilay 17. An additional $12,650 can be provided by the Department of Physics. The Vice-President and Comptroller and the Vice-President and Provost recommend that an appropriation of $33,500 be made from the General Reserve for the balance of the cost. Attached is a report from the Physical Plant Department on this project, including a schedule of bids received, and a copy is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record.
