HONORARY DEGREES (4) The Urbana-Champaign Senate recommends that honorary degrees be conferred upon: ALBERT JAMES HARNO, Doctor of Laws. A member of the faculty of the University of Illinois since 1921, Dean of the College of Law from 1922 to 1957, and now Professor of Law and Dean Emeritus, and Administrator of Courts of the State of Illinois. JAMES BARRETT RESTON, Doctor of Laws. Distinguished journalist, Pulitzer Prize winner, Chief of the Washington Bureau of The New York Times. WILLIAM CUMMING ROSE, Doctor of Science. Distinguished biochemist, a member of the faculty of the University of Illinois since 1921, and now Research Professor of Biochemistry, Emeritus. I am pleased to concur in the recommendations of the Senate. It is proposer] to confer the degrees at the Commencement Exercises at Urbana-Champaign c;i June 16, 1962, or at some other appropriate academic occasion in case any one of the candidates is unable to attend the June Commencement exercises. Submitted herewith are the recommendations made to the Senate in support of the nominations of these candidates, and copies are being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record.

On motion of Mr. Pogue, these degrees were authorized as recommended.

NAMING OF RESIDENCE HALLS (5) Upon recommendation of the Director of Auxiliary Services, the Housing Division, and the Dean of Students, and after consultation with the Executive Committee of the University Council, I recommend the following names for the new Pennsylvania Avenue Residence Halls, now under construction. Babcock Hall. Named in honor of Kendric Charles Babcock (1867-1932) who was Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences from 1913 to 1931 and Provost of the University from 1925 to 1931. Prior to coming to the University of Illinois, he was Specialist in Higher Education in the Lfnitcd States Office of Education. He bequeathed to the University an endowment of $50,000 for support of fellowships, research, and publications in the general fields of history and political science. Carr Hall. Named in honor of Robert Franklin Carr (1871-1945), an alumnus of the University of Illinois, Class of 1893. At the time of his death, Mr. Carr was Chairman of the Board of the Dearborn Chemical Company, Chicago. H e was a member of the Board of Trustees from 1915 to 1921, and served as President of the Board for one year. H e also served as President of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and the University of Illinois Fotmdation. H e was Chairman of the Memorial Stadium Committee which directed the fund raising campaign for the Stadium and arranged to finance its construction. H e was also the largest individual contributor to the Stadium Fund. Blaisdell Hall. Named in honor of Daisy Luana Blaisdell (1866-1952) who was a member of the faculty of the Department of German from 1900 to 1920 and from 1926 until 1931. During the years 1920 to 1926 she served as Social Director of the first of the University's residence halls for women, now Busey Hall. She then returned to teaching in the Department of German until she retired in 1931. Saunders Hall. Named in honor of Alta Gwinn Saunders (1886-1948), an alumna
