EMPLOYMENT OF ENGINEERS FOR STREET IMPROVEMENTS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN

(3) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend the employment of the following engineering firms for the projects and at the fees indicated. A. Street lighting improvements on Flor- Schedule B of minimum fees adopted ida Avenue from Lincoln Avenue west by the Illinois Society of Professional to the Illinois Central Railroad under- Engineers. pass. Clark, Dietz & Associates, Urbana B. Paving of South First Street Road Schedule B of minimum fees adopted from the end of the existing pavement by the Illinois Society of Professional south of St. Mary's Road to the access Engineers. drive serving the University's Children's Research Center and the Adler Zone Clinic, and the paving of South Lincoln Avenue Road from Florida Avenue south to the south right-ofway line of George Huff Drive extended. Sodemann & Associates, Champaign Funds are available for the above projects in state capital appropriations to the University for the 1967-69 biennium subject to release by the Governor. The Advisory Committee on Architectural and Engineering Services has considered these recommendations and recommends approval. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Swain, this recommendation was approved by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Swain; no, none; absent, none.

EMPLOYMENT OF ENGINEERS FOR EXPANSION OF T H E LIBRARY AIR CONDITIONING CENTER, URBANA

(4) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend the employment of Associate Engineers, Inc., Peoria, for complete engineering services for the expansion of the Library Air Conditioning Center at a fee of 6 per cent of the total construction cost. The expansion will provide required cooling capacity for the Foreign Languages Building, the Music Building, and Smith Music Hall. Funds are available from state capital appropriations to the University for the 1967-69 biennium subject to release by the Governor. The Advisory Committee on Architectural and Engineering Services has been consulted and recommends approval. I concur. O n motion of Mr. Clement, this recommendation was approved by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Swain; no, none; absent, none.

PURCHASE A N D GIFT OF THE T. W. B A L D W I N LIBRARY (URBANA)

(5) T. W. Baldwin, Professor of English, Emeritus, is the owner of an extraordinary collection of rare books consisting of approximately 5,806 volumes of sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth century texts of classical authors, with commentaries on them, Bibles and prayer books, rhetorics and histories, all of which are now located in the Rare Book Room of the University of Illinois Library at Urbana. The collection is commonly known as the T. W. Baldwin Library. Professor Baldwin and his wife, Regina Elisabeth Baldwin, propose to make a gift to the University of 3S0 volumes of this library. The value of this proposed gift is estimated to be $50,000. Moreover, Professor and Mrs. Baldwin have offered to sell the remainder of the library to the University for the total sum of $200,000 to be paid in five equal annual installments of $40,000 each, subject to the availability of funds.
