PORQUERAS-MAYO, ALBERTO, Professor of Spanish, for the second semester, to conduct research on the most important Spanish poetics puhlished in Spain during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. TEMPEKLEY, NICHOLAS M., Associate Professor of Music, for the academic year, to continue work on the music of the English parish church between 1660 and 1900, particularly the eighteenth-century parochial anthem. WOESE, CARL R., Professor of Microbiology, for one semester, to continue his research in the area of cellular evolution. YANKWICH, PETER E., Professor of Physical Chemistry, for the academic year, to extend and apply methods developed for ab initio calculation of absolute reaction rates and of the related effects of atomic mass on reaction rates. ZGUSTA, LADISLAV, Visiting Associate, for the academic year, to contribute to research and teaching in lexicography, general and Indo-European linguistics, and classical and South Asian studies. UNDERGRADUATE INSTRUCTIONAL AWARDS FOR THE SUMMER OF 1 9 7 0 (12) The program of Undergraduate Instructional Awards is proposed for continuation during the summer of 1970, to encourage faculty interest in improvement in the quality of undergraduate instruction. The awards, totaling $87,535 for the Chicago Circle and Urbana-Champaign campuses, would provide a full-time salary for two months (two-ninths of the academic-year salary) plus required incidental expenses. C h i c a g o Circle The Vice Chancellor and Dean of Faculties, through the deans and directors, invited faculty members to submit applications with complete descriptions of the work proposed. After approval by heads of departments and review by the deans of the colleges and their committees, twenty applications were submitted with priorities indicated. A special committee, chaired by the Assistant Dean of Faculties, evaluated the proposals and recommended to the Vice Chancellor and Dean of Faculties that those programs which were judged to hold the most promise of benefit to undergraduate instruction be supported. After review of the proposals, the Vice Chancellor and Dean of Faculties recommends, with the concurrence of the Chancellor, that full-time appointments for two months during the summer of 1970, at current salary rates, be authorized for the following faculty members (total of six involving five proposals).
