While this represents more than two-thirds of the estimated total available for the calendar year, the bulk of the expense comes during the crop season, May to August inclusive. T h e foregoing budget has been submitted by Dean and Director H . P. Rusk and has been reviewed by the Comptroller. I recommend its approval subject to adjustment within the total and with the provision that any unexpended balance at August 31, 1944, will be carried forward and included in the budget for the period September 1 to December 31 to be later submitted.

On motion of Mr. Davis, this budget was adopted as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Davis, Mr. Fornof, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Jensen, Mr. Livingston, Dr. Luken, Mr. McKelvey, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Nickell; no, none; absent, Mr. Green, Mr. Karraker.

EMERGENCY WAR FOOD ADMINISTRATION BUDGET (11) T h e Extension Service of the U. S. Department of Agriculture has allotted to the University Agricultural Extension Service the sum of $45,000 for use during the period ending June 30, 1944, in statewide work relating to food production and preservation. Dean and Director H . P. Rusk has submitted the following budget for this work: Salaries (two general assistants and 34 assistants in the various counties and Urbana a r e a ; appointments to be approved by the President) $24 050 Wages (clerical workers) 14 000 General departmental expense 3 000 Travel 3 950 Total $45 000 This budget has been reviewed by the Comptroller. I recommend approval subject to adjustment within the total.
