7. Acids for the Chemistry Department, from Merck and Company, Rahway, New Jersey, at their price of $3,162, as follows: 2,500 gms. dl-isoleucine; 2,000 gms. dl-threonine; 4,000 gms. dl-valine. These acids are available only at Merck and Company in the quantities required. The cost of this purchase is to be charged as follows: Chemistry, $1,917.60; Graduate School Research (W. C. Rose), $1,244.40; total, $3,162.00. Because this material is needed at once the purchase was authorized on December 16 by the Comptroller as an emergency item. O n motion of M r . Nickell, this report was received for record and the action of the Comptroller in authorizing the purchases was approved and confirmed.

ILLINOIS ORCHARD COMPANY BONDS

(19) On November 19, 1932 (Minutes, page 146), the Board authorized, for the purpose of foreclosure, the deposit with a trustee of $2,500, par, first 7% bonds of the Illinois Orchard Company. Mr. Newton M. Harris was named trustee. He now reports that he has disposed of all property covered by this bond issue, including oil and mineral rights, and that the proceeds are sufficient to pay expenses of the trust and to pay all bonds in full. A remittance has been received by the Comptroller to cover the University's holdings, thus closing the transaction. This report was received for record.

INSULATION OF ATTICS

(20) The Physical Plant Department recently took bids to utilize the balance of the special appropriation made by the Board on March 20, 1943 (Minutes,
